So, I know these two albums are mostly disliked among the general metallica loving populace, however I think they're both really good albums. They're both much less complex and much less "metal" than the early stuff, and I'm not really crazy about the lyrics, especially on reload, but I think both albums are absolutely littered with some great boogie metal riffing, I just can't stop headbanging to some of these songs! Poor twisted me, wasting my hate, ronnie, carpe diem baby, all great riffs IMO.

That said I think the albums could both use some better lyrics, but I do like the lyrics on some of the songs quite a bit.

It's not the metallica of the 80s, but I really like what they did here. I do hope the new album is more like say, ..And justice or Ride The Lightening, but I'll still be listening to these two alongside the old stuff whether I like it or not smile.gif

Care to share why? I'm just curious. I mean I can understand why a lot of fans were disappointed with them, but I think taken separately they're really good. Just not your kind of music?

Reload is argueably the worst album Metallica ever did, but I love and respect all their work, even Garage Inc. wink.gif

I KNOW! I love how James sings it. I like it more than the original, but thats just me.

Well i dont like it more than the original, Danzig does too good on it smile.gif

Both are cool though.

They're way different than say Master of Puppets, but their still good albums. As good as the old stuff, well no, but still good none the less. 7.5~8.0/10 if Master was a 9 and And Justice was a 10.

Posted by: FretDancer69 Feb 7 2008, 02:37 AM

i like some songs from both albums, probably more from Load, but i think the majority of the songs, i dont like. biggrin.gif

It's not that they're bad albums...it's just that I can't look past the fact that they released four awesome metal albums before it. Taken by themselves, most of the songs are actually pretty good; but like I said, I can't look past the other albums. I do actually like Until it Sleeps and a few other songs, but there's just too many let down songs like King Nothing to suit me smile.gif

And I'm not one who rants and raves about how Metallica "sold out"; a musician has the right to make whatever type of music that he wishes. Just thought I'd clarify that, in case any one thought that I was smile.gif

Oh, and Garage Inc. is awesome. Whisky in the Jar FTW! biggrin.gif

To be honest load and reload are some of my favorite metallica albums. They actualy sound to me like a little more outlaw bluesy kinda metal rather than the thrash stuff from their old years. alot of people dont like it because its not the thrash they're used to but i dont see whats wrong with playing some hard rock with a blues sound. i actualy think its a great combination and almost every riff in the albums sound pretty badass to me. I think the new album should have a couple of songs based on their thrash roots and then a few songs based on their blusey hard rock from these albums. And by the way St. Anger is the worst metallica album so far by the way... some of my favorite songs from these two are: Aint my bitch, Cure, Waisting my hate, Thorn Within, Fuel, The Memory remains, Bad Seed, Where the Wild things are, Prince Charming, and Attitude.

Slash, I agree with you about Whiskey In the Jar, its a really cool song. Better than the lizzy version, though I haven't heard any other recordings of it. That was what introduced me to thin lizzy, though whiskey in the jar is not even CLOSE to thin lizzy's best song, I barely even listen to it because the metallica version is better and all their other stuff is pretty much better than that. Either way, garage also made me dig up an old blue oyster cult album. Totally worth it biggrin.gif

Also I agree that St. Anger is really bad. It has some good moments but not many.

I prefer the way James sings in all the albums up to the Black Album, that and I get a more honest feel from thier earlier albums. The Black Album, Load, and Reload are still good albums though, they just don't do it for my personal listening pleasure.

I don't like Load and Reload albums but they aren't as bad as St. Anger. They should have just made it as 1 album rather than 2 albums and it would have been much better. Both have 4 or 5 great songs and 4 or 5 dull songs. Scrap the dull on both and put the good together and they would have had an awesome album.

And also I actually like King Nothing as it's a great bassline.

I think that Load is great! It has amazing riffs, great solos, and an awesome sound. I really enjoy many of the songs. I think that it's amazing that Metallica changes his style from album to album... I would be bored if they still would make albums that sounds the same than the albums that recorded 20 years ago. Sometimes it works so good and they do great albums and other times they do not so good albums. It's a risk.
Reload has some great songs that I like too.

Metallica Always Rocks! smile.gif

I really like the diversity these albums add. They might not be as outstanding as those before them, but as some of you already pointed out, they still contain some very cool songs. Personally I really like 'The House Jack Built', 'Until it Sleeps', 'Mama Said', 'The Outlaw Thorn', 'Fuel', 'The Memory Remains' and 'The Unforgiven II'.
I do think that Garage Inc. was better than Load and Reload. I've tried st. Anger a few times, but I just don't like it. (I like the st. Anger single most from that one though) I didn't really like the lyrics on that album and the songs just seemed dragged out to me.

All that being said, I think diversity is a good thing smile.gif

I think that he sings his very best on ...And Justice; his voice started going downhill after it though.

Loud and Re Load...best from them for me...blues/metall riffs are great...for me James sang the best on Otlaw Torn song...and Garage INC...album...hope they just don't tripp out with production like ST.Anger...Urlich snare is like wacko.gif unsure.gif but they are (un)forgioven:)....had some bad times before ST.Anger....hope they trow out the big elephant out of the room....

Reload got me hocked up with Metallica...Great album..Load too... wink.gif
I don't like very much ST.Anger...but we'll see ..new album is coming up.. wink.gif

At first, when I listened to these albums, I was like WOW is the metallica blink.gif I didn't listened to it because I couldn't get used to the thought that these guys made albmus like MoP and ... And justice for all. But then again, the more I listened to these albums, the more I appreciated them. Now I think it's really cool to see an other side from this band, not playing the same things over and over again like said in other posts.

I like Load more then Reload, just songwise but Fuel is indeed a great song biggrin.gif!
