If I understand your question correctly - all you need is a metronome, such as the Korg MA-30. (or use the one available from the backing track player at GMC)

If you want to choose a not-so-boring tool - I suggest a drum machine or a sequencer such as the Yamaha QY series (which will even play chord progressions etc for you).
