We all know practice makes it perfect. How much do you practice? What types of things?
I have decreased my practice time a bit lately, but I still get roughly an hour most days. I basically learn songs I like, and I try not to forget them, which eats time when the number of songs grows and grows.
I have recently drifted a little more towards new shapes and patterns - I have been mostly working on cleaning up my playing the last years. Also I want to learn some new shred stuff to put together some new cool videos.
edit - I average on 1 hour pe day now. Which is pretty good for me nowadays.
I've been working on some new slap bass techniques. I try to do short sessions on daily basis.
Generally such session is enough to me as I try to have it as focused as possible.
I don't have time right now unfortunately.
Right now I'm at a hospital studying weekdays and working almost every weekend.
I've just played some simple Aerosmith and Bon Jovi lately, to build my song repertoire.
I also need to pick up the bass again soon.
Still practicing AP and modal scales, and for free time I go for neoclassic stuff with main focus on dim-arpeggios.
About 1 to 2 hours per day, mostly one hour
I haven't any practice routine.. But I try to play the guitar at least an hour per day. I just take the guitar and play all the stuff I know, if I think that I learned the last thing perfectly, I try to learn something more, then I find a jam track on youtube and improvise around it. I'm thinking about making a practice schedule with exact routine when my school exams will be finished.
Practice time tends to vary for me. On a busy week I may practice for only 30 minutes or so a day if I'm lucky. (Hate weeks like that!) If I have an easy weak I tend to like to get in about 1 1/2 hours of practice in the morning. This is when I practice things like songs I may be working on and developing my technique. Lately I have been using this time to also polish my technique and develop good legato, which is a week spot for me. I practice again in the evening, but its much more relaxed, and generally I use this time to go over my scales. Lately however, I have been using that time in the evening to learn some of the great accoustic pieces on GMC.
My practice varies from day to day. Usually anywhere from 45 minutes to 2 hours on week nights. Weekends I may get to practice longer if I have nothing else to do.
About 1 1/2 to 2 hours per day.
I've been mixing a new lesson for each week and AP with metronome practice. If I'm working on a blues tune, I practice pentatonics. If I'm working on rock or with more distorted I practice diatonic modes.
I need to practice more..
probably 1-2 hours in total.. I don't do much, need to get into the gear.. but arg.. work and my plans to travel to US, taking so much time.
Chandra, I thought you'd practice like 8 hours a day How much did you practice for the extreme neo-classic lesson?
For me, it's 1 - 2 hours per day. I usually play some old lessons for warming up, then I'll switch to AP or legato stuff and try to get the speed up to a new level...
Christian
30-45 min
17 hours a day !
Ok, just kidding. At the moment, I'm trying to get specific results from my playing which is to be able to alternate pick faster without force or tensing up.. and also to be able to play faster downstrokes as my band is playing Master Of Puppets and I have to be able to play it by July 9th !
So I do 1 day on, 1 day off, 1 day on etc etc.. the day off lets the muscles recouperate so I can work them again. Time wise it's probably only about 45 mins
I try to play everyday, in reality that probably works out to 5 days through the whole week, varying lengths of time from an hour to three hours, the time scale depends on several factors.
currently working on all aspects of my playing, tightening and cleaning everything up and trying to break free of what and how I play in the band/live situations.
I don't really have a practice routine. That's my biggest problem. I just grab my guitar and play around 2 hours a day. First i play the lessons and some songs i know then i try to improve things i'm not good at.
Dogukan,
As much as i like
Just created new practice routine 4 hours a day/minimum.
3 hours of stuff that I "need" to learn, and then 1 hour of a song, solo or something that I'd really like to learn
I a big procrastiner when it comes to work...
I'll be like aww man, homework... oh look my guitar, i remember I need to practice and learn that new song, check out that new tone and amp settings, practice alternative picking, sweep picking, hammer-ons, pull-offs, vibratos, tapping, bends, slides, oh yeah and my rhythm timing... then I'll get back to homework... oh yeah, look there's also something new to play on GMC and a video chat lesson! I'm not sure where all the time goes.
How much do I practice? Hmmm... Well....according to my wife, it's about 22 hours a day
In reality - about 1 hour a day.
Cheers~
Gary
well i PLAY guitar from 1h-12h/day i PRATICE guitar 30min-1h/day q:
mostly every morning ( 5----5.30)- because kids and wife are not up yet
yes, my muscles take half an hour to warm up
and if I can get 1.5 after that, I usually get enough practice and get up to speed
