Hello friends!! It's FUNK TIME!! smile.gif

This workout consists of connecting phrases over a blues backing track that I will share here.
In other words, this means that we'll be creating a blues song together.

It will be very interesting to listen to melodies we create by connecting guitar lines and being influenced by each other yet still adding our own style along the way. I think that his experiment will make it a rich learning experience for everybody.

This is the backing track: Attached File  Jazz_Funk_Backing_Track__Gm_.mp3 ( 16.51MB ) Number of downloads: 192

Borrowed from Quist YT Channel: https://youtu.be/p_db4OXYJVw

Basic progression:

||: Gm | Gm | C9 | C9 :||

*Breaks*

| Eb | Eb F | Eb | Eb F |

Suggested scales:

For beginners / Intermediate:

For Intermediate / Advanced: Combine Gm Pentatonic with:

Over "Breaks"

How does this work?

1. I share a backing track,

2. The first participant (A) downloads the backing, records a 2 or 4 measures melody or arrangement (or both) over it and uploads an audio with the whole backing and his take. (please share an only guitar file for future mixing)

2. The next participant (B ) downloads participant's (A) file and records a 2 measures melody next to (B )’s take.

3. Participant ( C ) downloads (B )’s file and does the same.

4. We keep building the tune by extending lines and melodic ideas together

Some rules and suggestions:

- The melodies / arrangement should last 2 or 4 measures and can be created with guitar, vocals or other instruments.

- I will give 10 days to play each backing until we discuss the result and start with a new one.

- Remember to allow downloads If you use Soundcloud. (ALLOW DOWNLOADS!!)

- Save original files in your computer! We might want to re-mix it later.

- Please upload a file that only contains your guitar to let me do experiments.

- Don’t be shy. This workout is appropriate for all levels: BEGINNERS, INTERMEDIATE AND ADVANCED.

- Feel free to contact me if you need help with recording, mix down and uploading the files.

Hi Gab

I feel it good,

I will make a 2d take for blues connection and after I will try here.

I think that it's better to begin after funk rythm 0"17' ?

Hello Gab and MisterM,

I hope it's ok, I won't get chance tomorrow to do a take as I am going to Nerja in Spain for a week on Friday and have to sort out the last minute packing wink.gif I've quickly thrown together something and I've fitted it in before the 17 seconds. Don't use it if it's not what you need, I just wont get another chance before it ends.

Hey Phil!! That sounds great mate!! It's cool to see how you can also adapt to a Funk groove and keep on sounding great.

As MisterM said that he was going to start this one, let's give him the choice and ask if he wants to record following your take or if he preffers start the tune and then we put your take after his solo.

Yeah I have no problem with that Gab, I just wanted to be part of this but knew I wouldn't get chance after MisterM.

Mister M said he wanted to start after 17 seconds so I fitted mine in before that to try and make it as useable as possible.

Cheers

Great take MisterM, the first four notes remind me of Cool #9 by Satch.

Gab, you got my tone too sound how I was trying to get it, what did you do? I also tried to add a little bit of subtle Wah but couldn't get it to sound good.

Thanks

I honestly did a bit mate regarding sound. There is just a bit EQ process. However, I worked a bit more in your timing since there were many parts with timing issues. I wonder if the improvements that you hear are related to EQ or Groove....

Probably a bit of both mate, I know the timing was off, I was very busy but wanted to be a part of it so I threw something down. I knew what I wanted to get but didn't have time to get into the groove. The tone improvement sounds a lot better.

Thank you for improving and making me sound better mate, nice one. smile.gif

If any inductor has time a production workshop series would be great. I've looked at local colleges for a night class in basic recording and production techniques but can find anything.

Cheers buddy
