GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ My First Time On Stage

Posted by: guitargod Apr 11 2008, 05:28 PM

guys, tmr will be the first time i am performing on stage, haha, i am joining a band competition and is kind of nervous though as it is my first time, anyone has any advice to offer as well as their first performances experience? i am finally performing outside of my room and on a stage haha...

Start with the easiest song just to get warm. Half way through it, you'll be fine and not so nervous any more.
Good luck!

If possible invite a few friends over to your band practices before the band competition to get used to people watching you.

Be sure to take atleast 5 minutes warmup with the guitar before going on stage. Id recommend watching Marcus Siepens lesson. It really helps alot.

Well good luck on it! Hope you win!

try all members of your band to be so closed thats will help you .and play what you feel and dont look to the
people first song after that when you feel the people happy then take to them .i think it will be ok .goodluck

Just relax , hang out with your friends, possibly girlfriend smile.gif Be sure to prepare songs you are going to play at home and when on stage don't worry about anything just focus on your playing..If you make a mistake go over it because no one will notice anyway and it may distract you if you pay too much attention to it..

As Bogdan Radovic said don't worry about making a mistake just move on. 99% of the time the crowd won't even notice.

Good luck with the Gig

The biggest thing is just have fun. Your not playing at gunpoint. People who are there to see you play are there to have a good time as well so just have fun with them.

And since this is your first time its hard to say what your reaction to it will be. I have played in front of 15,000 people before and it didnt bother me one bit after the first song started.

On the other side of it i get nervous as hell and fumble all over the place playing in front of my vid camera with noone else around. Its weird to me...hopefully i will shed that fear after some time heh.

The first show is always the most terrifying.
But like the others have said, after the first song starts, the nervousness will start to dissapear smile.gif

Posted by: erik Apr 11 2008, 11:36 PM

yeah, don't worry. I've played horrible mistakes many times without people noticing it tongue.gif

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Apr 12 2008, 12:14 AM

No one will notice the mistakes, just take it easy man and try to be youself up there and enjoy the music.

I'm playing a gig tonight to. No my first though. My advice is to enjoy it. And come on, it's your first gig so everything won't be perfect anyway. Have fun, and then afterwards try to think of what you could've done better. But just enjoy the show.

actually that is the best advice in the world,I am serious, and dont ever show it on your face too....
just pretend that it is the part of melody that you are playing.....

Yeah man, even if your guitar string snaps or your guitar falls off you, just pretend the string is there and the guitar is still in your hands and wave your hands in the air. The audience will never notice it. laugh.gif

Relax and Enjoy it!!! wink.gif

whoops. blink.gif laugh.gif my first time on stage, in front of 500 people, I started the Star Spangled Banner, three notes in the guitar went HORRIBLY out of tune, and I hit a chord, sounded so bad I had to stop and tune it. sad.gif laugh.gif

A local band here once had a really wierd performance tongue.gif There was only a guitarist and a drummer. And the guitarist tuned his guitar differently for the last song, and he had to do it by ear. And he tuned it, started playing, and then he stopped and said that he needed to tune again. That happened i think three times, then he gave up tongue.gif Then the crowd started shouting that he should play it anyway, but he refrused and said that it sounded like crap tongue.gif The last time he tuned it a little better and he finally played the song tongue.gif

In conclusion: always have a stage tuner if you're playing different tunings tongue.gif

Posted by: Bogdan Radovic Apr 14 2008, 12:10 AM

Well you should have a stage tuner all the time with you..Its not easy to tune your guitar on "ear" in noisy environments (like on stage)..
