GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Good V For $500-600

Posted by: megadeth1117 Apr 4 2010, 03:43 PM

Hello, I am selling my Ibanez Xiphos and looking for another guitar in the $500-600 price range, I have came across a few guitars but I wanted to know if someone has any other recommendations. I have found so far an LTD V-300 and a Jackson PDX Demmolition guitar, I would also love a VMNT but their out of my price range

thanks in advance

All the guitars you mentioned are worse than your Ibanez Xiphos!!!
The Demmeliton is a Machine head signature guitar based on the cheapest Jackson Series, you pay some more for the artist name on the guitar. It's not bad with the EMG HZ pickups and the decent Liscensed Floyd but overall it would be a step down from the Xiphos which has a better tremolo and better pickups!
The V-300 is better than the Demmelition and features active EMG humbuckers... Quality wise it is as good as your Ibanez.

Try to get an ESP ltd V401, it is a big step up from the 300 quality wise (wood, hardware, etc). You might also wanna try the new Epiphone Annihlator Flying V...

The Dean VMNT is out of your price range but it is a really bad guitar, I had one for one day and brought it back to the store - just bad quality...

thanks for the response and telling me bout the VMNT

I love the Xiphos a lot, it plays amazing and sounds amazing, its just that its very uncomfortable live

I might go for the V300, it actually has the same specs as the 401, minus the tremolo bar, also the price on the Jeff Waters is going to be around $700 I heard

Sorry my bad, the 300 is now called 401 and there are trem and no trem versions... so yeah go for the V300.
Or try to buy used, you could get a far better guitar for the money if you look for a bargain!

And how is a Flying V shape more comfortable than a Warrior shape (Xiphos) live?

well because for live, I usually do the Mustaine move where you put your right leg in between the wings of a V so leads are more comfortable, with the Xiphos, the bottom wing is shortened so its kinda hard to do, plus for some reason when I play it my left wrist seems to cramp up, which doesn't happen when I play a V
