Yeah, since there are no guitar classes at my school I needed to pick a stringed instrument, so I picked violin. So anyone have any comments or what not? it would be very appreciated!

True, and I agree, but I want to learn another instrument, just to be a little more versatile.

You divide your time between two instruments and your guitar skills WILL suffer, i promise you. thats why i quit Bass and Piano, guitar is my only passion. do what Jenkinson says. start a petition. play guitar in school.

I think it will benefit you to learn any instrument, just take a look at Nuno Bittencourt.. he has great knowledge in a variety of instruments.

Personally I want to learn sometime how to play the Violin, Drums, Saxophone, learn piano again since I forgot everything, and even clarinet tongue.gif

It's really great, having chance to learn two or more instruments from the beginning. smile.gif
Just be careful as someone said,be sure that guitar or violin doesn't suffer because of the other...

Im sorry. really , i did not mean to tell you NOT to practice violin, because i believe ANYONE can do ANYTHING, just make sure you balance your time evenly and develop a good practice routine. again, i apologize for what i said earlier.

Do your best!
Colin

anyways, you were right about something. The guitar will suffer, if you divided your time, its obvious that the progress of guitar will be less, but you will also obtain progress on violin.

I plan to make the violin suffer, guitar will always be my number 1 choice, I'll do my best and see what I can do.

hahahahahahahaha has anyone seen the john petrucci psycho excersises video, he says "i never had a guitar, my father made me practice on a violin until i was good enough to have a guitar. and i thank him for that, even though it probably distroyed him somewhere in the process, i still thank him for that"

anyway the point it, well there isnt a point from that but there is from this below

hah gone for like a month and come back feeling like i can play everything

i used to play violin, i played for about 5 years, then i quitt coz i decided i hated itfrom teh second year. (sounds stupid, but anyway)
anyway the violin may help ur guitar playin the most microscopic way, it may help ur alternate picking, not much but will a lil coz of the bowing and such.
if i was u i would use that time u do violin and practice guitar. because ur fingers arent gonna get any stronger but playing the violin, it will be like playing on the high E string on ur guitar all the time, it will just get u buzzy notes when u play guitar.
and think about it, u are probably not gonna take violin that seriously, so u will probably waste a lot of time in total on violin and then quit after a while, and if u look back aat that u would say that u had all that time to practice guitar, why didnt u do it!
DONT START VIOLIN UNLESS UR GONNA REALLY TAKE IT REALLY SERIOUSLY like absolutely i would want to let someone else make the mistake i made already
anyway in the end im sayin u probably wont like it, go learn violin if u want, but hopefully u wont be able to prove me wrong. coz i hate bein wrong tongue.gif

red pill or the blue pill

we'll see, when I say I do something, I'll do it no questions asked, I picture myself harmonizing guitar and violin, for a nice celtic sound. But take my word, I always do my best on anything I'm dedicated to.

I don't think it will be a waste of his time.. even if he won't take it too seriously.

again, any instrument you decide to learn is a plus, cause at the end of it all, our aim is to become good MUSICIANS and not GUITARISTS, hope I make sense.
