GMC Forum _ MTP (Jerry) _ Superize - Mtp - December

Hi Superize,

please write here something about yourself and your goals about the acoustic guitar. I know you're interested in playing acoustic pop guitar.
Please tell me something more, bands, some songs you want to learn, etc...

Cheers,
Jerry

Posted by: superize Dec 2 2009, 12:59 AM

I bought my acoustic guitar this summer and have mostly been goofing around with it learning some easier version on songs from youtube. Like this one

i said i wanted to learn pop song and what i mean was that i am interested in learning to play acoustic songs for friends and family famous songs etc etc.....

I dont really have any bands that i listen to but i will let you know about songs later as we go

Learning to use more then just the open chords i already know and make it sound good when playing.

Learning how to use fingerpicking in songs

I also want to be able to sing the songs while i am playing but io am not sure you have any expertise in that......

Now lets get started as soon as possible.....

It would be reeally cool if we could start maybe with some christmas song since christmas is coming very soon...

Yes, I see your point.
I will back tomorrow with some stuff for you. For now, if you haven't see it before you can also take a look at my old http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/misc-lessons/tu-scendi-dalle-stelle-ligouri/ lesson.
It's also a good fingerpicking exercise. Please tell me if you can play this tune so I can understand better your knowledge about fingerpicking technique.

Hi Superize,
if this exercise is not too simple for you, you should consider it as you first assignment.
We work for some fingers independence, here.
The deadline is december 8.

Ok, let me know if you need any help while learning this.
I wrote the fingerings using Guitar Pro's default notation system.

Yeah, I know something about Jack Black but, to be honest, I didn't know about this band.
I will keep this in my mind for the next assignments smile.gif

Thank you for this take, Superize smile.gif
Since the deadline is tomorrow, could you record another take? No matter about the light condition. I wanna ask if you can check the difference between bars 1 and 3 wink.gif

Great job smile.gif
Take a look at this new exercise.
If you agree this is your next assignment.
 exercise_2.gp5 ( 2.02K ) : 172

You can work also with your right ring finger here, using 16th notes.

Let's discuss a little your REC take. It would be cool, in my opinion, to record a take of my http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guitar/the-beatles-style-lesson-acoustic/ or the recent lesson by Gerardo, http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/The_Beatles_Black_Bird/.

Let me know!

Posted by: superize Dec 8 2009, 12:35 AM

I will work on the excericis and i will get back to you what REC i will do after i have had a better look at both lessons

Posted by: Jerry Arcidiacono Dec 8 2009, 08:55 AM

Ok, the deadline for this second exercise is on december 13. Let me know if you need any help while playing this.
I will check the forum this evening.

I have decided to do your Beatles lesson for this months REC because its shorter so i will have more time to focus on playing it rather then learning what to play......

I am not sure if i can manage to get a take that will pass but i will do my best

Mmm... if you have seen some other lesson that you like in this area, feel free to post here smile.gif
We are working on fingerpicking right now but we'll move also on strumming, obviously.
So, you can take a look also at some strumming lessons for the REC.

Posted by: superize Dec 9 2009, 10:36 AM

No i want to do this one... It will be a great challenge

Posted by: Jerry Arcidiacono Dec 9 2009, 10:53 AM

Sounds great! Do you have a capo? Otherwise I will try to export another backing track using the right tonality.

Update:

I have learned the chord changes on the excersis and will have a video for you by sunday.

I have almost learned all the notes and position changes on the Rec lesson so i am pretty confident that i will learn it this month.

Here is my take for the second assignment and this one gave me some problems.

I am playing it at 45 bpm with the GP file.

the chord changes are still getting me in some trouble and using all three fingers is feeling a bit tought so i would really ike to work a bit more on fingerpicking for the next assignment.

Yeah, I like it smile.gif
Don't worry about the bpm, here it's just important to sync both hands and you're on the right way!
I will back to you in the next hours with the 3rd assignment.

Ok, here we go with the 3rd assignment.

Chord progression is the same of assignment 2. We work with a differnt pattern for the right hand, here. Let me know if this exercise is what you expected wink.gif

i could record a slower take for you so you can see where i am at....

Posted by: Jerry Arcidiacono Dec 14 2009, 01:51 PM

No need to record this. Just let me know if you find some hard part while learning the tune.

Posted by: superize Dec 14 2009, 01:57 PM

I can almost play all the parts so all i need to do is play it over and over again and then i can play it so no problem

Posted by: Jerry Arcidiacono Dec 14 2009, 02:02 PM

Sounds good smile.gif

Here's the last assignment for this month!

 exercise_4.gp5 ( 2.65K ) : 170

Same chords, different pattern for the right hand. This is useful, so you shouldn't notice any problems while changing chords, while it's very important to master different patterns with the picking hand. Remember that those shapes are very common in pop/rock and classical music!
The deadline for this assignment is december 26 - let's have a break on the Christmas day, at least biggrin.gif
Let me know how things are going with the REC smile.gif

Pretty good take, anyway smile.gif
Just keep attention on your left hand. Try to press the string "before" the fret. To see what I mean, look at your left ring finger on the G7 chord! smile.gif

How things are going with Fur Elise?

Take your time, superize. You should play that piece as much as you can before to start to record.
No matter if you can't record the REC in time. Just play the piece slowly so you can learn it in the right way, without rush. smile.gif
I will check the forum from time to time today!

Great take superize smile.gif
With our first MTP month we have covered different patterns for the fingerpicking technique, using some changes between open chords. From the next month we'll use also the pick, covering different strumming patterns and arpeggios.
On a side note, I'm waiting for the Tenacious D dvd smile.gif Thank you for let me know about this duo.
