There is couple of ways you can go with this. Essential thing is to know how intervals work ! For example, keys with SHARPS always have the last sharp thats half step away from root of the key. Let me give you example of this... Keys with sharps change keys using interval of perfect 5th. So you start with C major and go up a perfect 5th , you get G major. Now question is, what sharp does G major have ? As I explained in the trick above you just find nearest note to G , or note leading into G - in this case F note, and you INCREASE IT WITH SHARP. So now you get F# ! The answer is then simple - G major scale has one sharp and thats F#! What if you had to find another key ? Well simple, go up a perfect 5th from G note and thats your next key with sharps. G up a perfect 5th (power chord if you will is D note. Now we have D major scale. What do we do now ? Same thing we did for G major. We keep F# from previous scale and now we find whats closest note to D (leading note). Thats C and we increase by half step (add a sharp to it) and we get C# now! So the answer is D major has two sharps, F# and C#. I hope you can figure out 5 remaining keys its a great brain coordination exercise Now lets talk about keys with flats. There is a little bit different technique here and trick that you can use. We start with C major (no sharps or flats) and now go up a Perfect 4th. Our first key with flats is F major. We find the flat of this key by decreasing 4th scale degree using flat. So F major without any sharps or flat looks like this - F G A B C D E F. Now your 4th note in the scale is B, what we need to make it is Bb so that distance between half steps and whole steps can be the same like in C major (our scale that we use for relating all the other scales too). So now you get F G A Bb C D E F. Thats F major and it has one flat , Bb. Now the best trick about scales with flats is your next key (from F) is actual FLAT YOU HAD IN THE LAST KEY ! So from F major which had flat on B (Bb), your new key with two flats will be Bb ! And now you do the same thing for Bb which you did with F. Write down scale and lower 4th scale degree. Bb C D E F G A Bb. 4th scale degree is E , we make it Eb. DONE! Your next scale would obviously be Eb major scale and so on.
