String Bending In Solos Options

i have only been playing for a couple of months on my electric guitar , so i am just really starting out .when i try to do small solos with bending in them i keep getting the strings above my bent string ringing out aswell when i release the bent string how do i stop this. any help thanx scott

Well, there probably are some setup solves for that, but I'm no expert in that. I'll let someone else answer your question on that part. What I can say is that you could trie to mute strings with your right or left hand. Check out the basic sweep lesson from pavel, and check the comments. There they describe how to mute the best way.

Well i have 2 bits of advice. 1st, make sure however many fingers youre using for the bend the tips of you're nails are under the string you're nails hit while bending, so they wont pluck it when you release. 2nd, as kaznie says you can just mute the string with your right hand. Hope this helps.

I wouldn't recommend doing bend muting with your right hand, can be more difficult than it needs to be. When you bend always have a finger able to mute. When i do small bends usually index is ok but if i'm doing say a full step bend or more i'll make sure i use middle or ring finger. Generally when bending you're pushing all the other strings as well however i use my index finger to rest on top of the string that are being pushed up so that they're muted and don't make a noise. Make sure that it's just resting though not pushing down otherwise they'll ring out. Stopping your index finger from pushing down on the strings its muting can be quite difficult at first because all the other fingers are pushing down. Hope this helped

now see, I would say just about the opposite of this. and I would not be wrong, and neither is steve25.

thanx all for the replies , i think i will try the palm muting again , the only problem i have by palm muting is that i usually dampen the bent string also therfore ruining the sound of the bent string as my palm is on the above string , oh well practice makes perfict

For me it only started to work I started using index finger (left hand) on the other string, e.g., when bending 3rd string, my index is on fourth (muting it)

Some great advice here!

From the experience of my private students - a good solution to this is to experiment with your left hand's angle, and more specifically the thumb's angle (this will affect your fretting angle).
