Question is the title?
Usually people do it by themselves, so quite free. Besides that, it depends very much on where you're from and who you go to. If you bought the guitar in a store, they might even do it for free.
A few years ago, I had a luthier set up one of my guitars. It took a few minutes, and I had to pay for an hour (of course). In Norway that was a little over 50 euro. Probably cheaper where you're from
Np. Remember to tell him how you want the neck and the action. Otherwise he will just set it up for his own preference (or no-ones preference).
Talked to the guy. It's going to cost me around $70.00 (strings, etc.) The luthier is actually a nationally accredited luthier who is licensed with ESP, Ibanez, Jackson, Fender and more.
He's not only getting it set to drop-C but he's intonating it as well. I'm pretty excited for this thing to get out of the shop!
I am not sure what exactly do you mean, but if you are talking about only setting it up in Los Angeles it's about $50 just as you would normally pay to set up intonation
That doesn't sound too expensive Trey, I would've said around the $50 mark, which is about what I charge over here (£35 including strings).
$70 seems a lot to me, I think its worth going through the hell of your first setup, breaking down in tears trying to fix it to learn how to do it yourself though
First time I did it, went horrible!
