Hi there,

I went yesterday to a guitar shop looking for a Stratocaster , I have always loved that guitar, but they didn't have it, so I tried a Gibson Les Paul and I must say Im deeply in love , I cant sleep I cant eat , its driving me crazy. The only thing is that I don't have the money to buy it. So what do you think about the Epihone Les Paul? I saw one with EMG pick ups , really nice. Should I wait until I have the money to buy the Gibson or should I go for the Epiophone?

thanks.

bye.

Hmm I have that dilema m8 everytime I go in a music shop biggrin.gif

I think if you really want something then your better off saving the money, rather than compromising, why have 2nd best smile.gif
I have a friend that has two Epiphone LP`s and they are both nice guitars to play but nothing beats the real deal IMO smile.gif

Hmm, that's a matter of personal preference to me. One of good friends wanted to lift off in the learning of a guitar, and we looked at an Epiphone LP Std., I really liked it, but the way the guitar was built wasn't comfortable for my friends, so I went with a PRS SE Custom that's fitted and just screams sophistication...=).

If you close (or can) buy the Epiphone, I'd do that and just try customize the amp to where it sounds more Gibsonish. But, I'm the instant gratification type SO...lol.

Very difficult to answer a question like that. It's rather what your economy can allow for you to buy. If you can get a Gibson without hurting too much financialy then that would be ther better deal compared to an Epiphone.
But you can get an Epi that's good enough compared to the real think.

When I bought my Epi LP I tried out several Epi LP models in the store and one Gibson. The Gibson felt and sounded better than the Epi's but there were one Epi that was rather close to the feel and sound of the Gibson. So I went with that one instead of paying three times the money for slightly better sound.

That was in the store, at low volume, who knows how much better it would have sounded playing loud. I'm perfectly happy with the Epiphone though. Maybe because I never got used to a real Gibson unsure.gif

My desicion was financial and I don't regret it. If someone was forcing me to buy either one Gibson or three Epiphone LP's and the cost wouldn't hurt my economy I would get a Gibson. No doubt!

I borrowed a friend's Epiphone Les Paul and it sounded great on my Mesa biggrin.gif . It's a tough call, but I would seriously consider the Epiphone. Try them out side by side and see if you can notice a considerable tone difference.

I have an Epi standard, and I love it. A Gibson is just too much money! (for me) Not that I have, but can't you just buy the epi and replace the pickups to get the sound of a Gibson? Or are you thinking about the Gibson just becuase it says Gibson on the head stock?

I would say that is correct. I wanted a Gibson, just did. But if that is not a big thing to you, I am sure that some Epi guitars are better than a lot of Gibsons, and on average there is not that much of a difference, if you want to be realistic. Still I would get a Gibson, because I wanted one, and that was not going to change, and had I got an EPI, I would still be crarving the Gibson.

Hey Bedlam! That game was incredible, best second half I can remember. Doubt you cared for the 3rd quarter, but that 4th quarter got interesting. When he kicked that field goal I figured he was throwing in the towel, and did not want a shutout, but as it turned out, it was good strategy.

Well everybody likes A&M up here, so good game. Always root for you against the Longhorns.

Sadly its not that easy - a guitar sound is about way more than just the pickups. Things such as the type and quality of the wood, and the workmanship also play a huge part, and explain to a certain extent why a real LP is more than an Epi.

fkalich!

It was a great game. I can't believe we actually made a semi-game out of it. The 3rd quarter was horrible, but we came alive at the end. Mangino has something good going up there, hopefully he can keep it up. Us aggies are Kansas fans too, we like the north teams. At least Texas is not great this year. Maybe we can make a game out of that one too. Either way, Fire Fran!
