Hi Guys, I'm reaching breaking point with Cubase and I thought it best to ask for help before I demolish my computer in anger !
For months I've wondered how the hell I backup my .cpr files to disc so they're safe. I tried it before but when i re-inserted the disc none of the audio files were there. Some research later and I found that in every new project folder should be an 'audio' folder where all the audio takes reside. However, when I open that audio folder, there is nothing there. Not in any of them. So the question is, where has my audio been saved for all these years ? I swear I've never changed any settings, so what am I supposed to do ?
Another thing, in the preferences dialog is a box in the 'record' section. It says 'create audio images during record'. This is unticked. Should this box be ticked ?
I would really appreciate any help on this.. I'm paranoid I'm going to lose all my music !
Hmm if you can play the files on your computer when you open a Cubase project and it works - don't worry, files are stored somewhere for sure. Usually they are stored in project>audio folder (it is strange your files are not there )
Easiest way to backup your project is :
1. Open a project in Cubse
2. Go to File>Backup project and select the folder where you want the project to be backed up.
p.s.
Here is how I have it set in record settings (it's like that by default, I'm not sure how that option works) : http://pix.thefarm.se/20110628003030/20111115111954/
You can backup projects manually, or you can use "Backup Project" function in Cubase. Make sure you copy the complete project folder!
two folders: Audio & Images
one file: .cpr file of the project
I advise using the backup project command for archiving because you will have an options for:
Minimize Audio Files: if you already edited your events on the timeline, and created fades and everything, the audio files will be trimmed down to new sizes to minimize the size
Freeze edits: this function applies all the effects processing to the files, to cut down the CPU workload
Remove unused files: creates a smaller version of project by removing unused audio files from the audio folder (files that were deleted during recording etc..)
Remove Video files: again, creates smaller archive without bulky video files..
Calm down Mr. nervous, calm down !
