GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Changing My Pickups

Posted by: JVM Sep 26 2008, 05:34 PM

So I finally bought new pickups for my aerodyne telecaster, but I don't know how to change them. I can solder, but the pots and everything should probably be changed, even the jack I think. I was wondering if there was anyone with enough experience working with guitar electronics that I could perhaps PM you some pictures and give some details, and we could walk through a few steps of changing these things out? I really would like to know how to do this, plus it would save me a good chunk of change not to mention time smile.gif So if anyone thinks there up for it, let me know, thanks.

Check this out. I used it as a reference a while ago. It's usable for non SD pickups too.

Hey JVM, isn't it easier to just go to guitar tech to do it? You can take the strings off, and unscrew all the screws and ask him to do it, I'll bet he won't even charge you the full amount (which is not big btw).

But if you do wanna DIY, I suggest that you get a good strong pencil soldering iron, and practice a bit with bits and pieces of wire before you do the real thing.

Soldering won't be a problem, done it before. This is kind of of a project guitar, so I'd rather do it myself I think smile.gif

Thanks for the links ItsMe, I'll definitely check those out. Still be nice to have someone that can take a look at pictures and stuff though, if anyone is up for it smile.gif
