Hey
According to Kris latest post I decided to upload some music too. Today I wrote a solo (or something like that I think) over the kris's heavy metal riff and recorded it. I haven't jammed much over backing tracks in my life so I hope it sounds good. Great to hear someone else having a go.
Its clear you have spent a lot of time practicing your techniques - your speed is pretty good and you were blazing a trail over the strings and setting a fair pace. Ok so musically, it needed some work to make it more interesting but if thats one of the first times you have put an improv over a BT then I think it was a great effort and you should be justifiably proud of it. Just wait till another 2 months have passed - by Christmas when you post another and listen to the 2 side by side, you will really appreciate how much better you are. I think thats one of the best things about recording yourself - it really shows you how far you have come. Because your technique is good, you will soon be able to "phrase" your licks better. Some nice floating runs in there! I think what Red tie was saying is what I call "Dynamics" --if you start out with all you got----you have nowhere else to go...sorta... Typically you want to build, intro, set the scene, and then hit the climax of your story, and resolve...with a short clip though its hard to do. Like you said--just testing the waters and putting your best foot forward..I dont blame you!

I've read it all and I'm going to record& listen to myself more. And especially I'm going to think more about the phrasing and rhythm of the music (dynamics!) and if its fun for the listener. And thanks for the positive part of your replies greetz E. rock on!
