Love your collabs Ivan.

Great Backing. Tricky for me with no theory knowledge but great.

Is my entry ok or should I try and record it better sometime. I suck on guitar and really struggle getting the fast runs smooth sad.gif It took me about an hour and a half to record it so I was even slightly happy sad.gif

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Jul 4 2008, 11:19 AM

It's great man, don't be hard on yourself, very gentle and smooth! smile.gif If you wanna record again you can do it of course, you have plenty of time smile.gif

I might practice it over and over and try and tab it out in guitar pro so I can play it slower and speed it up gradually until I can play faster runs at speed. I really need to get better. sad.gif I will try and record it smoother sometime. Everyone else has done fast clean runs and I can't manage slow clean runs biggrin.gif

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Jul 4 2008, 11:28 AM

If you wanna do some fast runs don't rush it, take your time. You know well that clean playing even at slow speed is much better than sloppy fast playing.

Oh, I miss this post !!!! great BT mate wink.gif sounds like Still got the blues !!! This will be an amazing collab I guess wink.gif

Hi

I had a great time jaming to this track, I was hungry for more, it´s so short. But anyway I came up with this melody right away and jamed it a few times and recorded few takes and here´s the one I like. smile.gif

Few months ago I was studying Still got the blues, and I guess i´m still under the influence of that song.

I absolutely can't get it right! I wrote a solo (though bit by bit) and wanted to record it. But it comes out wrong every time. When I just improvise it sounds much better.. Haha. Uploading something in a bit. In this post too.

Here it is. It's not what I first intended, has some flaws, but it'll do.

It's actually more like Vai meets Moore.

It's great mate, don't be hard on yourself, I think also that improvisation can sound better, but if you wanna play practiced solo, that is cool too. Thanks for taking the part in the collab smile.gif

Posted by: MickeM Jul 5 2008, 10:10 PM

I listened to Smells track and decided to rip it, straight off. laugh.gif It was as inspiring as Gary himself wink.gif

Recorded these a couple of hors ago, a sour note sneaked it's way in at one place, but I'll re-record it it I find the time.
If not I'm rather fine with this version.

If anyone is interested I started off on the neck pu (used to sit in the Epi bridge position). Then I switched to the bridge DiMarzio Super distortion and switched back for the ending chord.I did two takes first where I tried to use the volume know to clean up but that was kind of roddy for the ending chord to work.
Sound is from the POD X3, duotone. Soldano with Delay and Sine Chorus and the Line6 Vetta tube screamer + Marshall JCM2000 ith the same effects minus the tube screamer.

Thanks Ivan, cool backing!

As iluha said i'm glad this isn't a competition

Ivan: I realised afterwards that i didn't put a single bend in, do you think it sounds too flat and i should redo it or is it fyn?

Posted by: Caelumamittendum Jul 8 2008, 04:49 PM

I know I ain't Ivan, but I'll answer anyways - I actually like your take, but if you want to retake it, maybe add a bend or two and some vibrato to add that extra flavour and emotion.

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Jul 8 2008, 09:55 PM

I down with Caelum here, you can record it again if you don't like it, but it seems fine to me. The purpose is to record something that you really like and that represents you, so I can give you comments smile.gif

Here is my oddball contribution. I have to admit I did not know Gary Moore before this, I had to go to YouTube. huh.gif I can't yet play anwhere like his style, but when I heard the backing, this melody came to me right away, as well as this tone. This marks the first time I wrote something out and practiced it. biggrin.gif

I know I'm behind the beat, but that's just how it felt to me. This is me, this is how I feel. I guess I have reached my first milestone in that I took up guitar so I could express myself, and here I have done so.

I'm trying to follow Jdriver and let this one be the first time to realy write and practice the solo, but I can't do it... I'm not realy good with guitar pro, and to make a still got the blues style solo, I need to know the major/minor scale and not just pentatonic!!

Any tips on this, pls don't say learn the major scale in a week time.. I ju9st can't tongue.gif I can do the first two patterns of the major (or the fifth and first of minor) but I'm not familiar enough with them to realy use them like I can with the pentatonic.

I just need some help on getting started with writing, because normaly I always improvise.

you need to write it through improvising, improvise over the backing again and again, when you find bits that you like transfer it into guitar pro, build up a whole solo in this way and then practice your finished completed solo over and over and over again until you nail it, try recording each take and listen back, picking out parts that you liked and tab it out in GP.

Learn the major scale, wink.gif That's basically what I did for this collaboration, I only knew pentatonic before this. I still have to glance at my cheat sheet but I can play C Major from top to bottom. In the process I learned you don't have to play minor to sound sad or moody, I did not know this most Major of the Major scales could sound like this.

As far as writing, the melody just came to me, and then as Smells said, as you work it out on the guitar, it changes some, you notice fingering changes that work better, etc. I'm not good enough with Guitar Pro to make it play the way I heard it, but it allowed me to get the notes down so I could practice it.

You don't have to know all the boxes, 2 or 3 are enough to get started. The fact that it's only 30 seconds long helps quite a bit. tongue.gif

Posted by: kaznie_NL Jul 19 2008, 06:06 PM

thnx for the tips, and I'll keep stuck to the pentatonic for this one, but I'm going to use GP5. Smells tip is usable, but I'm not always able to reproduce the things I played in tab tongue.gif

thnx lads!

Aah.. finished tongue.gif

I wrote a piece and went further improvising and writing bits and pieces.. And then I just played remembering some things I wrote down... and I didn't even want to do anything about it. The only minor thing might be that it can lack a bit of vibrato. I can tab it out, but I'll never get it this nice, so no retake for the vibrato biggrin.gif

thnx for the tips, and yep, I used some major scale... I think I did at least tongue.gif

Well I took the time to make them so why not post them.

Here are a few other tracks you can use or just comment on if you want. I recorded dry (same lead) and added VST EQ, Effects and played with the panning to give it a bigger smoother sound. At least I think. laugh.gif Panned dry to the right and wet to the left.

I have temporarily lost a portion of my hearing (for the past 2 months or so) in my right ear due to allergies. Some days are better than others but it will get better. Just frustrating. Thought this sounded more like his tone but hell, I don't know.

Ivan use which ever ones you want and anyone can feel free to comment. Just trying to learn all I can.

Cheers all
