Upgraded Laptop Worth Every Penny

Just a few minutes of video was taking several hours with just a couple of filters on it. Especially HD video. Now it's down to a few minutes. LOVE the quad core i7 for rendering After working with a dual core i3 it's just night and day in terms of performance. I put two ssd drives in the i3 and it makes a great netbook I"m working on it now to write this. But I leave the quad cores cabled up for production. Egad!! The good news is you can get a used macbook pro (I"m not a windows guy) with quad core i7 for about $500 on ebay if you get a 2011 macbook pro. They are amazingly fast considering the age. I"m really shocked how little cpu performance has increased since the i7 was introduced which is probably why those old macbook pros are so popular. I bought it right before they ended production of it because I knew it would be the last quad core laptop they ever made with analog audio input, upgradable ram, optical drive, easily replaceable battery, and Kensington lock. May 15 2016, 06:14 PM	GMC:er Posts: 25.297 Joined: 23-December 09 From: Atlanta, Georgia, USA	That series laptop is the sweetspot IMHO for macbooks The new ones are moving toward being a tablet with a keyboard tacked on and the memory/etc. is permanent so you can't upgrade them. Also, the speed increases since 2012 are shockingly incremental in the quad core laptop space it seems. So spending 2.5k to get a new version of that machine just gets you more resolution on the monitor which is only so useful in music production. All part of why the 2012 mbp is sort of the "golden era" laptop for Apple Not to say I wouldn't take a new one Just that I always try to squeeze every penny out of my music related funds so buying one for me just doesn't work when I could get an older one and several guitars for the same price. Apple is slowly abandoning the "Pro" market it seems and focusing on mobile which makes sense in that it's most of their profit as a company Todd QUOTE (Rammikin @ May 15 2016, 01:18 AM) i hear you.
