why would an amp like this not be good enough? http://dawsons.co.uk/acatalog/marshall_mg102fx.html

That's a solid state amp with built in effects.

There's really nothing wrong with that amp, or the Vox VT100, or any other decent amp for that matter.
Some of us here suggested a valve amp, but truth is your tone will be more in your fingers than anywhere else, I highly suggest you take a trip to a big guitar shop and try out as many cheap and expensive solid state and valve amps as you can, and hear them yourself. Maybe try to find some sound samples/youtube reviews, although the sound through your computer speakers will never be like hearing the real thing.

Oh, I'd like to add: A guy I know who played and sang in a band (proffessionally) for over 15 years has recently purchased that VoxVT for rehearsals with his friends and he is really happy with it. Makes it sound so great that I don't mind if it's a vox or a peavey, solid state or valve, it just sounds good cool.gif They play rock/pop

Yeah that's the criteria to choose an amp: looks -.-
Nobody would play orange amps if they were thinking like that! As long as it sounds good, who cares how it looks?!?

Sorry but you have stated what you want and how much you can spend and we narrowed it down to the best choice there is for your budget - there isn't anything we can do for you anymore...
We are not hiding a better choice from your! Asking the same questions over and over will not suddenly bring out a better amp for you!

Yes, I told you in some of my other posts. At home I play with stomps and tube amp, but when I travel it's really convenient, I just take the Me-70 and a guitar, and I'm set. I can connect it to 2.1 speakers/Hi-Fi/Headphones, and use the modelling too.

I tried it the other day with my tube amp (turning off the ME-70s amp modelling, leaving just the effects), and much to my surprise it sounds great too. With my eyes closed I couldn't honestly tell the difference between its chorus and delays from my boss/vox stomps. Even the distortions sounded really good.

Then again I play at home, maybe at higher volumes it shows its weaknesses.

It's good for rock, might work for blues too. Falls short for meta in my opinionl. Here's a mini review I wrote recently:
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/inde...tor_Mini_Review

You seem to change your mind really fast, you better take a trip to a guitar shop and try lots of stuff yourself. Whatever we tell you in the boards are just our opinions, and everyones music taste is different!

And this is the exact reason why they are so many brands and so many models of amps and stomps.... The best things to do is to go to your local shop and try different things to see what you like. Also IMO if you do not know what kind of effect you will need you should consider a multi effect. It maybe won't be as good as different stomp pedals but at least you are going to be able to try everything. I uses to have a pretty cheap zoom multieffect pedal that as initiate me to the different effects. Now I only use the effect on my amp but since I don't have a band anymore and I moved to a smaller appartement I almost always play on my computer with a Guitar port.

Anyway, try the gear by yourself because know one here can be 100% convinced that what they recommend you will suit you best... Good luck in your gear journey...

I agree with this. The amp is going to be the most crucial decision you make. If your worried the Fender blues man Junior is not loud enough, it is because you have not played it yet. I cant turn the master volume on that amp past 3 or 4 without moving away from it.

I would not worry so much about your stop box setting, at first. If you live in the U.S, you can use Craigs List to find unbelievable deals on these stomp boxes.

Go to a music store and compare. Dont buy anything that you dont have any idea of a use for right away.

Here is what I use and probably all I ever will use (stomp boxes)

Compressor, Noise Reducer (to come soon if I decide I need one), MXR carbon copy delay, Boss Overdrive, Digitech Whammy for harmonizing and octave effects, MXR phase 90, and Dunlop Dimebag wah.

The only question I have now for my gear whether or not I will be buying a chorus (better than the one on the whammy) and what I buy when I exchange my solid state amp for a tube amp..

I am probably getting a Bogner Aclhemist

I was going to recommend the Peavey Classic 30 or Delta Blues, very loud, very nice, very well built, but are you still on a budget? These are great amps, But they are around $600USD in price. If you check the Harmony Central reviews people generally love these amps. I know I love my DB. You can plug in a second cab later and drown out the drummer.

Theoretically you *might* need those pedals for Rock and blues:

-Overdrive
-Delay
-Reverb
-Wah
-Volume
-Tuner
-Noisegate
-Chorus
...

The list goes on and on because it is up to the player what Pedals they need and don't need. Some of the greatest Legends of Music don't use any effects at all!!!

You obviously don't know which effects you like and which you won't ever need so it's no use to buy effects that others think you will need!
With the boss Me70 you will have almost any effect there is and expression pedal which can be used as a wah, whammy or volume pedal. You can use the Me70 to experiment and find the effects you like and need and the ones you don't really need. Sure, individual Pedals sound better but it's not that the ME70 sounds bad - it just doesn't sound as good as a pedal built for one effect.

If you have played a couple of years and/or have experimented with a MultiFX you will find the effects that you like and then you can start buying individual pedals. If you start with some random pedals now without further experience (like I did) you will end up with some effects that you like and some that you don't like and which you won't use often... I had a whammy, an Equalizer, a digital Delay and several distortions and I never used and wasted a lot of money that way!

excellent suggestion!

personally,

after playing with many amps and amp flavors,
I have to say my favorite set up is having a high end modeling pre amp + separate tube power amp + 4x12/2x12 cab

right now I use the digitech rp1000, but i will be upgrading to an axefx soon which goes into my atomic reactor which is a tube poweramp built in to a 4x12 cab that allows to play modeling products with out color to the sound.

the digitech is really convenient for me because it offers me with everything i need + a recording interface. The atomic reactor is 50watts and loud enough for most small/normal gig and practice situations!

I love my set up, and will probably use a set up like this for a long time.

amps ive used before:
Mesa Mark series
Peavey triple X
Blackstar
Marshal JCM series

effects:
many individual effects from 80's and present effects

so i have some experience with these different sounds smile.gif

For your budget you have several options, but I would definitely recommend ValveKing + some basic pedals.

Get yourself a Boss tuner, volume booster, chorus or delay, depending what you will use. Usually rhythm players don't use that much of delay pedal, but they use chorus. Wah is a good investment but I'm not sure if you use it that much.

In the end, you are the one who has to buy it, so it may be wise to actually go into store and tryout all these effects. You will have much more clearer sense on what you want and what not that way.
