hey guys,
I finally managed to buy a decent webcam to motivate myself for the REC program. Now I encouter some small problems.

that is some piece of advice from somebody regarding the mixing of the audio and video (sorry, cant give you his name as I closed the TAB)

1. Open the programs (quickcam, pod farm, reaper etc.).

2. Load your POD Farm settings.

3. Start recording the video with your webcam software.

4. Start recording the audio with Reaper.

5. Play your track.

6. Stop recording with Reaper.

7. Stop recording with your webcam software.

8. Save and edit everything.

9. Mix video and audio together (for example with Windows Movie Maker).

10. Upload on YouTube.

11. Post on the GMC forum

Well thing is, I got a Podx3 and a webcam but no DAW such as Reaper or Cubase. So at this point I dont care if I have to spend some dollars on a good DAW ~bout 100 $ limit~, I just need something really easy, intuitive to use. Thing is, I recorded my guitar via RiffWorks, but I dont know if it is possible to also include a backing track and if riffworks is really the best choice for doing so. How do you even include the GMC backing into your recording? So in the end you somehow mix your guitar with the backing and synchronize this audio whatever format file (mp3?) with the video line (for example windows movie maker?)?

appreciate any advice smile.gif

You can download Reaper for free! (Although you should buy their license if you continue to use it!)
You can get it HERE!

You can load the Backing in one track, open another for your track. Export as mp3 or WAV and then import to movie Maker with your Webcam recording and edit together.
A good tip from one of the Instructors is to mute the strings and strum them quite hard just before you start your take, that way you can look for the large 'spike' in the sound wave and match it to the video of you striking across the strings more easily!!

I'm doing a video soon that will help you overcome this issue, stay tuned! smile.gif

Regarding Reaper, it's not exactly free, it has 30day trial period, and after that you need to get a license. However, after 30 day trial period has ended, software will stay completely functional, without any limitations, only to remind you every startup that you need to get a license. So, not free, but fully functional after trial period.

hey guys, thanks for the help so far. I am really bad at recording pc related stuff, and i am postponing the issue since years as I am happy when i just find some time to play the instrument. Well I got 3 weeks of holidays now and wanted to dig a bit into this recording stuff, so I appreciate any help and will surely love to watch your video. Do any of you guys know a complete noob introduction? I even get lost with some terms, the different layers, the signal chains, monitoring whatever stuff, bypass whatever stuff, .. know what I am pointing at? wacko.gif Like when I read some guides they are always 3 steps ahead talking about mono, stereo track adjustments and synchronizing with khz whatever, well I just want to record some stuff into reaper and put a video on it thats all.

Well maybe I can ask some questions now / clarify what i think, just so I get it right:
I can use PODx3 as a standalone with gearbox, select my sound and record it "live" with reaper (1 layer of audio)

alternatively I can record a dry signal into reaper via the pod (without gearbox!) and put effects over it after the recording via a vst.

I cannot record "live" as with gearbox with any other vst besides podfarm because the latency will be too high so I can just put vst effects over already recorded "dry" tracks.

I guess the easiest thing for me to do is insert a backing into reaper, and then choose my sound with gearbox and record another "live processed" audio layer. I simultaneously record the video which is then later synchronized with e.g. windows movie maker to fit the audio. got that right?

thanks in advance for any help! happy.gif gotta be super patient with me

Sounds to me you're doing things a little backwards, probably to solve latency problems?

There are sound drivers, special use to lower latency to a minimum. One is ASIO. With your POD you should have got one. You have to tell your software, such as Reaper or Quickcam to use it. That's done under each software's Audio settings by setting sound-/audiodriver to be ASIO

That way you should be able to select your POD sound. Start the webcam recording software (remember the ASIO sound driver) and get everything in synch from the start.

Yeah, you should tweak the options or preferences of your ASIO driver to see if you can reduce latency somehow by increasing buffer size. Try Control Panel>audio card, or from Reaper.

I had Toneport UX1 from Line 6, and although it worked nicely with Gearbox before reaper (as a mixing and modeling software of the card itself), this card handled plugins poorly, so I could barely use Guitar Rig 3 (which was popular at the time smile.gif )
