GMC Forum _ CHILL OUT _ Need Help Findig Some Tunes!

Posted by: Jesse Apr 20 2009, 10:00 PM

I went to the library today, and ofcourse, went trough the music section. ( I got some dire straits/lynyrd skynyrd books) and 2 Jazz books!!!!!!

I thought.... jazz is cool & mellow, I wanna learn more! So I got some(complicated) book on jazz chord voicing. And "Classic jazz for guitar" Nine of the great all-time jazz standards specially arranged for guitar by Andy Jones.
The only problem is, I've searched UTUBE and couldn't find any original tracks, to play along to. Could any of you jazzmasters help me out? biggrin.gif The tracks are :
All the things you are
Angel eyes
Georgia on my mind
Meditation
The girl from ipanema
The song is you
Wave
Witchcraft
Yesterdays

There all the original versions.

I didn't know any of these tunes, but I thought that it would be cool to learn some jazz (standards) Pretty hard if I don't have any reference material though.
So, if you can help, please do!

I think that I'm getting Band-In-A-Box since it's supposedly awesome:D

Here's "all the things you are" MIDI.

You can find all the MIDIs on the web, just add some quality VSTi's in the DAW, and the sound will be nice and solid for a good practice. You can even change tempo to better analyze the chord changes and how the keys modulate.

I didn't know any of these songs, but here is your girl from ipanema.
It took me 2 whole minutes to throw some random effects on the midi track. So this is probably the worst version ever created. I don't know how it is supposed to sound, so accutally its more a joke laugh.gif

Jess - try a search for Joe Pass. I'm pretty sure he recorded jazz guitar versions of all, or at least most, of these standards. Pass is a great improviser as well and so his take on any standard would be worth a listen.
