GMC Forum _ GEAR & PRODUCTION _ Half A Dozen Ibby's?

I"ve run up against my "Half a Dozen" limit rule and now I need to get rid of a few so I can buy new ones to replace them 
Do you guys have any self imposed "Rules" that keep you from getting in trouble with gear?

Yes absolutely, 1:1 is a loose rule I follow. If I'm going to get something new, something's gotta go. I don't want a museum collection, my stuff has to serve a purpose. The only guitar I'd never part with is my SG, it's the guitar I've had since I was a teenager. I really like to buy and sell to try new things, it's a lot of fun and not too hard on the wallet.
Which of yours is gonna go?

I don't really have much stuff as I always overthink things (yeah boring 
) but when my friends collection got out of control we thought the best was to get rid of the least played.
This really helped shrinking the setups and I don't think he misses the sold ones too much.

Sell off what's collecting dust if the average price on, say, Ebay is worth the space it saves.
As you get gear, one tends to start getting more quality stuff and the other stuff just sits. Once you get quality stuff then you get more quality stuff and other quality stuff sits and collects dust. Generally, dust collecting quality stuff can be sold to buy other quality stuff that you might actually use or to buy other things, say that header and 4 barrel carb for a 61 Biscayne you'd really like. I don't sell quality stuff. I recycle the funds to other quality stuff. Generally I find selling low quality stuff not worth the effort and just gift it elsewhere.
So, I have maybe two guitars I really play and others that collect dust. I've started selling dust collectors cause I know I won't play them, I'm getting older and pending downsizing the house as the kids have finally left, and I need the space. Although, I keep certain sentimental gear that I may not play, like my first guitar as selling it makes no sense as it would cost almost as much to send by mail unless someone picked it up and, if I'm gonna make so little on it, I might as well keep it for memories.
Also, a lot of times we buy stuff along our journey of stuff and find we revert back to using other stuff cause it fits our hands and were momentarily afflicted by gear lust. Now that stuff is great, but it collects dust. Perhaps as we get stuff, at some point we get wiser and start to really choose our stuff with more care of use rather than desire. Unless of course money is falling out of our armpits.
I doubt I'll buy another guitar soon. In some time, I might buy a fanned fret multi string, but I find 6 strings difficult enough to add skill and practice.

That's actually a darn good plan if you have the discipline to go with it!! I must say I would struggle a bit 
I do try to keep it to half a dozen though. Now I"m eyeballing new guitars so I gotta lose at least one of them. Maybe the white RGT, or the Red RGT. Or maybe my Dean Modifier, or the Ibby RG320, also white. Or the white XIPHOS. The last three aren't in this picture. So really I"m up to 8 Ibanez, which is two more than my max Shoot me a PM if your in a buying mood!

Todd, anything in particular that you are on the hunt for or is it just the general pursuit of new guitars ( which is an admirable pursuit, of course ) ?
BTW your collection looks great cant believe Ibanez dont have you on their payroll as some sort of ambassador.

I've not sold any guitars to replace any yet but I've got a Blackstar 4x8 at the shop for sale now and the Laney IRT Studio is going in tomorrow and when they are sold, and if he still has it, I'm going for this I think. Always wanted a real Tele and when Scott got his last week it made me want one even more. Don't know which model this is but it's supposed to be a rare colour for a Tele, Hot Rod Red or something like that.
I get emotionally attached to my guitars and my wife does too, if I tell her I'm going to p/ex one she pulls a sad face 
and says "Oh but you like that one, it's sad to let it go to a new home"

It's up for £725, what you reckon? 2001 model. Can probably get it under the £700 though.
And I just remembered I did sell an Affinity Squire Strat for £75 when I got my MIM HSH Strat

I'm usually looking for more Ibbys that have been neglected. I clean them up, get them looking/playing as good as possible, then sell them and send them back out in to the wild Sort of like short term adoption. I don't keep em, just clean em up and teach them some manners so that they can make the next owner Happy I see it as my personal ministry to the world of Ibby fans
That said, I"m always open to things I"ve never owned or tried. Which is still a long list
BTW thanks for your kind words and I agree!! Ibby should put me on staff as "Brand Ambassador"! I"m a fanatic after all, so my loyalty to the brand should be apparent to them, but such is life I'm content to do my thing.

under 700? I would.
Ive seen US standard teles go for around 700 in shops and they were probably newer models therefore not as cool as a 15 year old one

No guitars for a while for me. For many reasons. But mainly cause I just got a new toy for a daily driver off eBay. My 63 beetle is too cold in the winter. But on the upside. If I ever play out, I can fit not only my gear in the trunk but the drummers too. And I'm almost positive it seats 7 full sized adults. It would fit 8, but straddling the center floor console interrupts shifting.
At the moment, car gear has superseded music gear. Is there a rule for that?? I like the half dozen rule.......not certain my wife would be as broken up as Phill's if I had that many old cars and then decided to sell one.

I dont remember seeing any hot rod red teles on my 'travels'. I wouldnt be surprised if it was a limited colour.
there's loads of candy apple red, they seem to be most common. then also fiesta red, which I really like cause it looks a bit faded.

Yeah. I just got it a little while ago.
License plate reads DRSTRNJ.
Anyway. It's my bad weather and winter cruiser. On good summer, spring, and fall days it's off and on with this.....
And I think I've officially hijacked the thred from Todd. Better stop or he'll start removing badges and as I only have three I could be badge-less sooner than it takes me to gap the plugs and valves on the VW

Congrats! It's CAR NGD!!! Looks spiff! What make and model? Whatver it is, it's certainly got style! I went with something a bit more boring, a late model VW. I'd love to have a second car like that just for wheeling around on the weekends Given my guitar fetish though, I'll probably buy a guitar to play on the weekends instead. How did it go with ebay motors?

1961 Biscayne. Original paint and interior, inline 6. Aside from drop springs and wheels, it's all original. Runs great. 60's Chevy's were essentially Biscayne, Bel Air, and Impala. They were essentially all the same car. Biscayne was the lowest model. The only difference were engine, or number of rear lights, or carpet, vinyl, air conditioning. But the frame and top were all the same. Frequently people will by a Biscayne, buy the Bel Air chrome label, and then try to pass it off as a Bel Air instead. Only the VIN number will tell the truth. In 62', chevy changed the body shape and unfortunately, in my opinion, cut all the flowing lines and went squarer rear end, no wrap around window and a square front.
I bid on it actually on a lark thinking it would go for way more and just testing the final price. As it went for much lower than I thought, I found myself with the winning bid, which made me a bit nervous. But the process was easy. The seller was great. I had it on my doorstep in less than a week. But just like buying a good or expensive (not always the same) guitar, you gotta know at least a moderate amount about the subject so not to get taken too much.

Very spiff indeed I"ve always wanted a 67 Impala 427. Same general idea as the car you have, as you mentioned, they were all mostly the same car. I've always liked the lines on the old impala and the 427 is a beast of an engine. Not great on gas though 
As for guitars, I'd LOVE a Skeverson but they are more expensive than the Impala
This one went for 3.5k!
P.S. no worries about highjacking threads. This is GMC, threads can go any direction they want! If BEN jumps in, we will be talking about DOUGHNUTS in no time

No donuts for me. My 61 it one big momma and has the original 135hp inline 6. Flipping a U turn in her is like coaxing a sperm whale into a kiddy pool.
I tried.
I did't happen.
I had to bail mid-turn when it was obvious I'd either end up on the sidewalk or in someone's yard.

Ahh the YumYum I have seen but jsut called a "twisted donut", the Empire biscuit is popular in the uk and in particular Scotland . I'm not really a cake/donut/biscuit person, give me a breaded mushroom any day though
