GMC Forum _ PRACTICE ROOM _ Reaper Wav. Files Gone

Hello
For some reason, I got logged in as temporary user.. magically I got logged in again normally after a third system reset.
However, everything is still there but my reaper wav. files, needed to load my projects.
My project rpp files are still there, but I cant of course load.
I have looked everywhere. They are gone.
Most of my reaper recordings end up in my folder called "random junk"
and some in "reaper media"
The ones for the project files usually in that folder, that now contains EVERYTHING but my wav files...
Well reaper doesnt have the ability to play my recordings.
Can I still get them outlined in a way? Like to get reaper to remember anything to assist me re composing them again?

It's very unlikely that the wave files have been deleted - much more likely that Reaper has put them in a different location as you were logged on as a guest.
You should be able to quickly find them by doing a search using *.wav as the name to search for in Windows and narrowing the search down to the last 24 hours (or whatever the time window was). Once you know where they are you should be able to point Reaper at the location to import them.

They are likely gone regarding I have for some reason more space on my harddrive.
I have found 1300 wav files, yes, and sorted by date. None of these contain the recordings I want, due
as I said, some end up in the reaper media folder
And some end up in my special desktop folder and they wont be found
Tried copying all my entire wav files and rpp files to that folder
still cant load the projects.
Ive also tried to find my piano recordings, searching for wav files by date of adjustment/creation
Cant find the november recorded piano files, just one of all files i cannot find

How will I back this up for the future?
I have to have the Rpp project file, and the beloning wav. files who are also with a neigbour rpp
So If I would put all this in a folder on my external harddrive.
And then this happens again, where would I put all these files for reaper to read them?
As Said, reaper saves its files in 2 different folders :/

Run a search by date and that should narrow it down. Also, a fine example of the importance of having a solid back plan in place so that lifes little "gotchas" don't "getcha"

This is a great advice that should be taken seriously by everyone, regardless of what you are using
You need to take the time to create backup files as you can never trust software Maybe you have the wav files somewhere there, so don't give up

Well said, this is usually the very LAST thing most musicians actually worry about when it should be among the top. I can't tell you how many students have come to me after losing a drive, having a drive fail, not paying attention to file naming, etc. Sadly, being a computer savvy person is just part of being a musician these days, so paying attention to backing up files, etc. is a great part of a successful recording strategy

Bullseye - as much as I hate computers and all the tedious work, related to them, I would hate losing my work so, this week will most probably have to include the backup operation as well

If Reaper has a similar function to Cubase "Clean the pool" then maybe some program error could cause that loss...

I use SYNCH FOLDERS PRO which actually backs things up in real time Which is very handy. it doesn't create capture/playback issues so I usually just leave it on. That way even if a drive dies during a session, all the bits will be on the backup drive
I recently purchased an OWC Rack Raid and stuffed four 1 terrabyte drives in it to use a large work drive that backs up to other external drives. Handy that it lives in the track and turns on with the flick of the power supply unit for that rack. 
How often do you make backups Todd?In this case, based in his first post, it was likely simple user error. He mentioned logging in as a "temp" account. Then using a different account later. That would do it.

You can buy mine if you like I'm selling my OWC rack so I can get a larger unit. It has USB, Firewire 400, Firewire 800 and esata connections on the back so it will work with any system. The drives can be formatted for PC or Mac. I"ll message you with some price info
Or did you just mean where can you buy the software? The software I use is MAC ONLY but there are tons of options for PC as well. Here is a FREE software that will do your backups I'm not a WINDOWS user so I can't vouch for this personally but it looks ok and the price is right. Anyon else?

...If I remember correctly Todd does a lot of post work so he needs a lot of storage space
.We do the audio for some post specialist studios and they have huge amounts of stoarage as well. Did some for RTVE recently and there data storage rooms look bigger than some houses. They archive and make available for streaming all of their IPR tv programs on terrestrial HDTV so it needs to be.
