i havent played or even touched a guitar in more than 5 weeks because i was on holidays with my family.

now im back, but my finger tips are really soft and hurt alot

im considering buying a shredneck so i can take it with me next time i go on a trip, that way i wont lose my speed and coordination.

my question now is: besides playing with the shreckneck, is there something i can do with my hands or fingers to exercise them so that when i come back they wont be as stiff as they are now.

cheers.

Anything finger involved will help a bit. For example placing Your hand on the table, and lifting one finger at a time in many different orders, trying to do it with different pairs of fingers etc. Still shredneck is more useful. Or You can buy some cheap, small touristic guitar, it will sound terrible most probably, but still enable You to play after whole day of traveling.

that's right, breaks are good and healthy, even if your fingers are weaker, your mind is refreshed.
from time to time i stop playing guitar, for like a month, and after that i usually got a super creative time, not sure why but maybe it will work for you too wink.gif

When I go on vacation I take my shredneck and it's good for ten days or so, but 5 weeks might be too long. Gripmaster won't help mintaining calluses (I've got the red one but never use it), as it only exercises the fingers.

Nothing beats a real guitar obviously, but the shredneck is the best solution I've found so far for vacations smile.gif

Her's a wiki I wrote about it:

that's an awesome comment.

just keep playing and take same exercises focused on finger independence, and in two or three days you´ll be back. smile.gif

Too long indeed, but needs must.. I'll probably have to start back at "how to tune your guitar" when I come back to it; it feels like a lifetime of not playing.

I've been on a little hiatus as well. I've been playing but not "hardcore" practicing like normal. I'm getting ready to dive in full on again though. The break has been refreshing though......but I'm ready to get at it again..... smile.gif

That happens to me when I don't play for 2 weeks or more. I found that after 2 days only I'm back in shape. Practicing is the only key and try not to lose the continuity. Even if you go for a holiday take acoustic guitar with you and have fun or find a guitar store and go jam for 10 min at least smile.gif
