Analog sound is analog sound - it remains analog from guitar to speaker and it is the real guitar sound. Digital units smear the sound, kill dynamics, cut off frequencies cause they go through ADA converters. Each one has it's pros and cons of course..

Nowadays the modelers like pod are doing a very good job but there is nothing like a real amp. However let's see what happen in the future. I think that the companies (like line 6) will find the way to make the modelers sound exactly like a real amp but we have to wait.

I beleive the new Fractal rack mounted Axe-Fx unit is about the best modelling around at the moment, its getting some rave reviews here.
http://www.fractalaudio.com/products-fa-axefx.html I'll probably get rid of my Line 6 stuff in favour of a more traditional tube amp and some bespoke pedals, I just dont use its capabilities anyway! |

ive always liked the cheapness and convenience of modelers however, ill agree that they dont sound as good. however! a digital amp can sound very good if it is its own sound! IE roland jazz chorus...it isnt modeling anything, its it own amp...it doesnt try to model tubes or anything....and thats why its so loved! Roland Jazz Chorus is as analog as it gets. It's a solid state amp tho. Roland has always made a good gear that sounds clean and transparent. This is probably why it is adored by jazz players a lot. -------------------- - Ivan's Video Chat Lesson Notes HERE
