GMC Forum _ Wiki Writers _ Wiki Wcp Helpers Team Being Formed!

Posted by: Fran Jul 27 2008, 01:57 PM

For the ones who don't know what WCP stands for, check http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=17876 first!

Just sent everyone who showed interest in the project a PM so that you guys can confirm if you want to take part!

Ivan I know you are in, so no PM for you tongue.gif

If anyone else is interested in lending a hand doing some conversions, just PM me! Wiki:Writers are specially welcome as it will be piece of cake for them wink.gif

Soon I'll post a couple templates and examples so that we can start converting Concert and Album reviews too!
In the meantime you can check http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=17920 to read a couple examples and basic guidelines to convert the Gear Reviews forum into wikis!

Don't forget that it's very important for this to work to act as a team, so please PM me before you start working so I know who is in and I can coordinate our efforts and keep track of what's being done and what not!

Soon I'll make a sticky thread here in the forum containing the full list of people involved in the project, templates, guidelines, etc. in a structured and hopefully easy to read manner smile.gif

EDIT:
See the new, pinned post full of useful info here:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=17972

Thanks all for your time wink.gif

Posted by: OrganisedConfusion Jul 27 2008, 02:22 PM

I'll gladly help. I know my way around the wiki smile.gif

Posted by: Fran Jul 27 2008, 02:34 PM

Awesome O.C. wink.gif

Posted by: Ivan Milenkovic Jul 27 2008, 04:08 PM

I'm in too, I guess this is the formal sign up topic.

P.S. I suggest that people who want to do the wiki translation, write down the articles they want to do, and then you Fran can copy that list in your first post in this topic. This way we could keep track of assigned articles, and prevent 2 users editing the article in the same time, which can result in not being able to edit them properly.

Here are the articles that I'm assigned for:

1. Marshall AVT50X Combo Amp http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Marshall_AVT50X_Amp_Review#OVERALL_RATING
2. Jim Dunlop CryBaby 535Q Wah Pedal http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Dunlop_Crybaby_535q_Wah_Review
3. Boss CE-5 Chorus Ensemble http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Boss_Chorus_Ensemble_CE5_review
4. Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive
5. Boss DD-20 GigaDelay
6. Line 6 TonePort UX1 Audio Interface
7. Boss BCB-60 Pedalboard
8. Peavey Generation EXP with ACM Electric Guitar
9. Fender American Stratocaster 60th Anniversary Edition

Posted by: Fran Jul 27 2008, 04:24 PM

Sounds good Ivan wink.gif All those are yours!

As soon as I have the list of people involved in the project (hopefully tomorrow), I'll make a sticky post at the top of the forum containing the members, possible assignments, guidelines, some templates, etc.

We will start doing the Gear reviews conversions, as they are pretty easy, and slowly start assigning more reviews from the other two boards too.

Glad you are with us Ivan wink.gif

Posted by: Fran Jul 27 2008, 11:29 PM

Just in case you don't see it pinned up there, be sure to read this main post:

http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=17972

Hope that helps you guys to start, should you have any doubts, just ask! wink.gif

I'll get started right away, and edit in the articles I'll be converting in this post =)

Where is the list of what still needs converting and then I can get doing some? smile.gif

Posted by: Fran Jul 28 2008, 02:50 PM

You can choose any review from the gear reviews forum, just make sure that is hasn't been chosen by any other member in the team yet. (Check their lists in this thread). You could also do the same with the Album reviews forum (I just post this morning an easy to follow template, and will do an example Album Wiki review conversion soon).

Soon I'll send a message to the mods of those forums with a list, so they can mark the finished review posts with a symbol in their topic title, and make it easy for us to see what's done and what not!.

Hi all! smile.gif

I'm posting this here too to stress the importance of keeping an eye on this thread:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=17972 (pinned up there in this forum!)

I'm constantly updating it and adding a new reply too including what's new, because there are new important guidelines that are being added thanks to all your great suggestions. Please, keep an eye on it whenever you see there's a new reply, as it will be our main method of communication! (Appart from this thread where we keep the list of articles we are working on or have finished, of course)

The latest addition is this:

- When you create your entry, remember to add the word "Review" at the end of the title. That way if you are doing a conversion of a forum review called "Boss DD3" you should title the wiki as "Boss DD3 Review", to specify that it's a personal review and not an objective article.

(I'm going to change all the wiki review conversions we've done so far so that they all are presented that way, please remember to do this from now on!)

Please keep an eye on that thread from now on, as it will be the only place we'll use to communicate new guidelines/examples/templates and whatever may be needed.

You are doing a great job so far guys! wink.gif

Posted by: Smikey2006 Jul 29 2008, 05:16 PM

sorry for the lack of a pm back but im here and ready to work ill select my articles later this week as im rather busy but ill find the time so don't worry smile.gif

Posted by: Fran Jul 29 2008, 07:30 PM

That's great Smikey!, just edit your post above and add your list of to do/ done reviews, and take a look at the pinned post at the top of this forum to check what's going on wink.gif

Posted by: Fran Jul 30 2008, 01:23 PM

Matt, I merged the info of your last post with your previous one in this thread, and erased your last post to avoid duplicated info. Keep updating the list I started for you! wink.gif

Please remember to update your posts to keep our lists of finished articles easy to check, instead of creating a new post each time you finish something new!

Awesome job on Dream Theater review Matt! wink.gif

Posted by: Fran Jul 31 2008, 12:47 PM

Hi there!

Just a short note to let you guys know that I'm sending regular lists of finished articles to the mods of the Gear and Album Review forums so that they mark the threads (using an orange exclamation mark next to the topic title). That way it will be easy for you guys to tell which ones have been done so far.

I send these lists in groups of 10 articles per category, so spect some time between you finish your wiki and the forum thread gets marked though.

We are also removing the duplicated content in the threads and leaving a link to the wiki article in the threads.

Remember to keep an eye on other people's lists of "to do" and "done" articles in this thread to avoid having two people working on the same wikis!

Great job so far! smile.gif

Sure! It's easy, you can choose to add just the picture at the top of the article, like this:

Or you can add the picture aligned to the right, left, or center, with a text at the bottom, like this:

To upload the picture to the wiki you can follow the link at the end of each wiki page that says "Upload file":
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/index.php/Special:Upload

Hope that helps! wink.gif

Thanks a lot mate, I finished my first article, will do next one tomorrow. smile.gif

Now that I've got that hang of it it is not hard at all smile.gif

Posted by: Fran Aug 25 2008, 05:25 PM

I've been experiencing problems with my connection these last couple days, the tech guy came up this morning and fixed the cable-modem so I guess I'm fine again (crossed fingers).

Oh, by the way... Come on wiki-team!!!! laugh.gif, some of you started strong but haven't written much in the last days (weeks!), Oh I know, I know... it's summer, it's sunny who wants to write wikis... well me! (Actually I'm off to have a ride in my bike wink.gif), but I'll do a conversion tonight.

Don't be stressed (well you obviously aren't laugh.gif), just a heads up so you finish the lists of threads you chose, when you find some time smile.gif
I'll keep converting all reviews until all appear in our wiki, so shall you have any doubts, just ask smile.gif

I'm doing it one at a time slowly Fran, and was wondering where were you. Now let's keep those conversion flowing! biggrin.gif

If you check my list of finished articles in this thread you'll see that although I don't post new messages I make a conversion per day, more or less, and update the list daily. Soon I'll start making many more though! smile.gif

Hey Fran, if there's more than one image in the original review should I just choose one and put it in the image box in the standard template (what I have been doing), or should i put them all in?

Posted by: Fran Aug 27 2008, 07:14 PM

Hi Matt!

Put them all in, the more the better, plus we aim to stay true to the original review with all its info (pictures included).
Glad to see you back too smile.gif

Thanks man!, it takes some time but we will eventually cover all current reviews and add them in the wiki smile.gif

Posted by: Matt23 Sep 7 2008, 10:03 AM

Hey Fran I've started adding all the images from the reviews to the wiki and i was going to go back and do it to all the reviews i only put one image in, but they're all gone and just have a link to the wiki page. Is there any way i could get those images back so i could put them in the review.

Posted by: Fran Sep 7 2008, 12:33 PM

I'm afraid not Matt. Be sure to include all pictures in any review from now on smile.gif

Edit: Thanks for the new entries by the way! wink.gif Keep them coming!

Posted by: Matt23 Sep 10 2008, 08:49 AM

Hey Fran just a small question, on the Ibanez 2550e review i think it should be the Ibanez RG 2550e Review so could you change the title?

Cheers Matt

Another question, say you have the phrase "single coil pickup" in the article and you want to link it to the page titled "single coil pickups"" is there a way to do this like single coil pickup or would you have to do an external link? Hope this makes sense.

I'm afraid that can only be solved through external link. If it was the other way around you could do it like this: single coil pickups. (Happens often too). Truth is we should create our entries in singular if possible to avoid this kind of situation. I can always change the article titles to singular if you guys let me know the ones you find smile.gif

Edit: Just redirected the plural entry to singular. Both should work now wink.gif

Also remember adding to album reviews instead of , I changed a couple entries.

Thanks for your entries Matt you are doing great! smile.gif

Hey what's up wiki team! Anybody alive! laugh.gif
Come on people convert some stuff from the album/gear review and I'll give you each one of these!:

How could you say NO!

And remember that if you don't this little fellow here might visit you in the middle of the night...

Scary huh? laugh.gif

Convert some stuff, write some new articles or easy suggested entries... whatever!, you can do it!, takes just a few minutes and every time we write a new wiki a kitty is saved!.

Help me from ending up like this guy here:

Sure we are hiring! cool.gif
There are quite a few things you can do to help:

1) Create your own articles, anything guitar related: bands, gear, guitarists... you name it!
2) Create some of the suggested entries
3) Take part in the WCP (wiki centralization project) which is what this thread is about

Any of those options will eventually lead you to qualify as a GMC Wiki:er, read about it here:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=19336

If you are in need of some basic info to create a wiki article, read here:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=9117

As for the suggested entries, you can find them here:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=18918

Info about what the WCP is about (converting forum review threads into wiki entries) can be found here:
http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=17972

All this stuff is pinned at the top of our wiki-forum. Shall you have any doubts just ask smile.gif
