Hello all,

Whichever recording software I use the peak meters for my guitar are way way down when I play back but the volume is the same as when recorded.
Is this normal?

Hi Phil, I'm not completely sure about your question. Could you please post some print screens of your peak meters here while you record. And also, what about the wav audio graph? Is it also low or it's normal?

Hello Gab,
I'm off on holiday for nine days tomorrow won't be able to post pics and PC is off now. Basically when I am recording, the peak meter is just below the red zone but when I play back, the peak meter just about shows at about 25%

I think I know what you are saying Usually, I click on the track and raise the volume after recording. Click on the recording and you should have means to raise the volume by simply holding the click and dragging up - you need to see where you have to click as each DAW features these things differently Please, let me know if it worked ok?

Thanks Cosmin but the volume is ok, it's the peak meters that are low. It doesn't really matter but it's one of those niggles
I was wondering why it does it.
I reposted the sound file and another one last night in my lesson thread.

Could be any number of things Phil. The most likely is that you have the meters:

1/ set to read at different points with regard to fader position, for instance one set up is pre fader and the other post.
2/ are set to read differently - i.e. one is peak and the other RMS.

The same peak meter shows a higher reading when recording than when in playback. Eg. My guitar track peak meter shows around 90% when recording but the same track shows around 20% on playback.

Actually I may have mislead you all, sorry, it is quieter on playback It's actually buggin me even more now, OCD is creeping in, please tell me this is normal or there is a quick fix, I get the same in reaper too.

What daw are you using? Are you losing volume during the bounce down? You could always put a compressor/limiter on the master bus and bump it a bit

Sorry for the delay in replying, for some reason I don't get notifications of replies to this thread I am new to this and don't understand terms like "bouncedown" etc, all I did in that video was record and play straight back, I didn't do anything after recording except hit the play button.

Hey Phil, I don't know how things look or function in your DAW, but out of the terminology I know, 'bouncedown' refers to a mix version which you can create after finishing a recording session. Practically, the bouncedown button will create a mix of the selected tracks in your DAW, in the desired format which you select.

Well that video is one track, recorded and immediately played back with nothing at all done, it wasn't even saved to the hard drive.

You can have one track occupied and if you select that one, that's what the DAW will bouncedown - the number of tracks doesn't make a difference. The action is the same.

I understand What I was trying to say is that on the video the track is totally unadulterated, that's why I'm wondering why it is quieter when played back.

There must be a setting somewhere, that alters the volume when being bounced - you must look that up, as I have no possible idea what setting that would be. But following my instincts... see the mixdown/bouncedown settings I am sure there's something mentioned there about volume as well..

I'm using Guitar Tracks 4 buy Cakewalk/Roland.
