Hey again guys,

i'm thinking about purchasing a bass partly to be able to record my own base when making songs and partly to help out some friends when they rehearse. I don't really know what brands make decent cheap "beginner" bases, any suggestions?

I would probably set the limit at around 5-600 Euro.

Also, I can't really see a benefit playing with 4 strings instead of 5. Are there any? 5 makes more sense to me, but I can't really say why =)
I will play heavy rock and metal mainly.
