Hi, im stuck on a little Island with few people and almost no chance of getting a band. Every single time i ask my friend who plays bass/drums to start she just says yes and thats it, i never hear from her. Im thinking of getting a telecaster and a foot drum and just start my own "one man band" like Robin did. Didnt John Lee Hooker start alone? Or did he play with a band from the start? The reason im concidering this is because i feel like im the only one i can trust around here hehe tongue.gif the cons are that i dont have to rely on people to come to practice and no problems with people quitting. Atleast im thinking of going solo just for starters and play everything i know on electric guitar and singing, maybe make a demo or something, play a couple of gigs and then see if i can get any to play with me(you know what i mean... tongue.gif biggrin.gif)
What do you guys think? Cheers

If you really want a band, you are the most important person to move it forward. This can mean going solo or not. Bands always have kind of a core, that keeps the band together. That is made of motivated people who knows a thing or two about music.

I was actually thinking like "ok, I sing something between like bad and ok but I will try to do all myself" when suddenly I met more people: a experienced keyboard player, a real good bassist and in special this amazing singer that is playing with me. Sometimes, when you stop looking for something it comes to you. You just have to keep your own serious work on that wink.gif

If you are on island, it's probably more easy to start only you, on guitar and voice. But don't lose your hopes wink.gif

Everything is possible if you are able to take the risks. If you are really serious about making music I suggest you to move to another city (preferably not an island biggrin.gif )

If not, I agree with Gus.

Be patient mate, you are still young and don't need to worry yourself if you can't find a band now. The band will come, just stay focused on the guitar, one day somebody will ask you to join the band or you will form your own. Sometimes you just can't do it intentionally, just wait until it happens, and believe it will.

Were you specific? Like, come on tuesday at 19? She could be as frustrated as you smile.gif

And I believe that you can't *just* wait for someone to grab you for a band, somehow you would have to let people know that you are "up for grabs".. But I also believe that it is no real hurry, make some music and record it with software drums and bass for a while, if you create something great then put it on myspace or similar. Let people know you and your guitar are out there.

biggrin.gif that's what was I thought aswell, maybe the way you tell it you're putting a part of the responsibilty to get started on the ones you ask. So you're both waiting for a reaction while I think probably you have to be the engine. Come up with a concrete proposal and be prepared if or when someone shows up for the band practice session.
If you know a song by heart you can lead the others through it, pick an easy one for starters.

But most important, be the engine yourself and make things happen!

Yes, that could be very well happening. When I met some of those people I mentioned, I didn't hear from them from a couple of days. Then I simply decided to sent an invitation: "Let's meet at my place on Sunday at 19 to discuss about the band". I bought a couple of chips, cola, chocolate, wine, beer so that I could receive them and be friendly. smile.gif Friendship is perhaps more important on a starting band than advanced music knowledge.

We chatted a little bit about what was everyone's expectation and in the end we even recorded a first demo of our own material. The singer had a piece of paper on her pocket with some lyrics, and I just showed something I composed the day before.

Everyone was interested in band. But I was the one deciding to take the actions to make it happen for real. And I am still doing it. Using the words the guys mentioned: I decided to be the engine.

The problem is that my friend always "cancel" things even though we have firm agreements she calls and say " I cant because of this and that etc... sad.gif

Hmm maybe if you want to go with one man band thing you can make your own songs backing tracks or covers and play alongside them live...That way you will have the bass , drums keyboards - everything you need...

I agree with Bogdan, nowadays vsti technology is awesome and you can create awesome stuff with it. However, it also costs a bit, but still gives you lots of possibilites to create music without band.

You dont even have to say that.lol very funny

If you cant get in a band, then why not create your own music.Who knows if your a good enough songwriter and composer then perhaps you could become signed to a label and they find you session musicians to play with you on albums and tours

In your situation I would do it solo and hope that your time and effort will be rewared at a later date:)
