Well its taken a little longer than planned/expected but I`ve finally finished it!! My stab at another "In the style of lesson" this time the fabulous Vivian Campbell!!

Attached Image

Vivian burst onto the scene with Dio way back in the mid 80`s when I`d not long been playing guitar, amongst a few others he climbed right to the top of the pile as one of my biggest influences in my early years of playing, he was just the kind of guitarist I wanted to be later on, loads of screaming harmonics and fast shredin runs smile.gif unfotunatly I`ve never quite managed to reach that kind of level but here I`ve given it my best shot and using (especially in the last third of this lesson) a few of his licks that appeared a lot during his time with Dio.

Vivian is of course still a top guitarist and now resides with Def Leppard.

on to the lesson and I hope you enjoy it, a lot of sweat and tears have gone into this one laugh.gif

Various keys, used throughout, starting in E, moving to G and the final part in Dm, I will add some fret boards as soon as I`ve finished them smile.gif

A fairly easy start in, nothing too tricky in there, just remember to use lots of palm muting

Part 2

this part again not too tricky as it mainly follows the backing, hitting the pinched harmonics and the ending run is probably the trickiest art here.

Again the timing is a little tricky not a complete straight run, bit of speed burst required, lots of palm muting also

Part 5

Part 5 tab - Attached File  Part_5_tab.txt ( 1003bytes ) Number of downloads: 445

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

----------------------------
----------------------------
--12--10--9---------------
---------------12--10--8--
---------------------------
---------------------------

Probably the hardest run down in the piece, due to the awkward timing, I really struggled with this part in the slower video, I felt a little lost without the backing to keep me in time.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

a straight forward run up with a nice little lick that Vivian used to use a lot, especially in his solo spot live.

Backing tracks (Quick note here, a big thanks to Andrew for re tracking the drums for me on the backing track and showing me the error of my ways by not using VST`s smile.gif thanks mate)

I hope you`ve enjoyed this one as much as I have, its been a real challenge putting this together, for a period I nearly ditched it, but instead thanks to your input from the demo I posted I carried on with it.

From this lesson at the moment I am working on a couple of spin off lessons, one of them focusing on pinched harmonics.

All the best and see you on the forums

Chris

The drums sound really crisp and just better than your previous videos - have you changed something about the way you made the backing track??

I changed the bass synth and Bass sound that I was using originally, and I added a third rythmn guitar and dropped the original two back a little in the mix I think it made a little more room overall in the general mix maybe?

Thanks guys I`m glad you like it smile.gif

I would view it as I love Dio but unfortunately the video makes my computer crash and die sad.gif I click on it and it sounds like your playing at 10 beats per minute and then stutters and dies. I will try and view it somehow. I blame it on Quicktime. What a useless program.

Unless you are playing at 10 beats minute and I apologize and it was great lol biggrin.gif
