GMC Forum _ Bands and Guitarists _ Metallica Vs. Iron Maiden

Hello,
if you are listening to Orion by Metallica, the bass part it's same like Blood Brothers by Maiden... And Orion is from 1986, and Blood Brothers 2000.....so....

James cant touch Bruce
Kirk or jame cant even dream of coming close to Dave, Adrian, Or janick
Lars has nothing on Nicko
Cliff, James, Nor Rob can be as good as Steve
And with how basic the riff for Brave New World is, im sure theres another band from the 60s that did it, or even the 50's.
Hell you could find a metallica riff and or lick and find probabaly the exact same one in a band 15 years older than them.

none of them(besides cliff, he's a bass god) is master at what they do, kirk just shreds pentatonic solos, james plays some riffs and growls a bit, lars pounds his dums and stays ins measure. But the MAGIC of metallica is that when they play together something happens, and they form (in my opinion) The best band in the world.

When it comes to musical talent, Maiden kicks their ass indeed. But they are two very different bands, cant really say whats "best". I personally like Iron Maiden alooooot more.

Bruce is the better singer, no question. In fact James never wanted to be Metallica's singer. Cliff was better than Steve. Hammets solos are worse than maiden's but Metallica's Riffs are much better than maiden's.
Both drummers do their job, not more, not less.

They make completely different riffs, they play very different styles. Just a matter of what you like the most.

My original post wasnt really serious.
My oppinion though is, Maiden have more talent than any other music act ever, there are my favorite band, for me, there is nothing that comes close to them.
And also, Maiden and Metallica are two WAY Different styles, comparing them doesnt really do anything.
Lets put it this way, Metallica and Iron Maiden have release some of the most classic metal albums of all time.
BUT MAIDEN STILL RULES!!! UP THE IRONS!!!

metallica is such a unskilled band for dumb jocks who know NOTHING about music. metallica couldent come up with an original riff to save thier life. they just rip off older, estabalished musical genres to create totally generic "metal" and whine about how "angry" and "hard" they are.

They make generic metal? Metallica was one of the bands that CREATED metal, I mean sure there was like, King Crimson, Lizzy, zeppelin, sabbath and others before them but a large amount of metal bands today owe a lot to metallica, AND to maiden. Really though I don't get why people love to compare about stuff like this, I would concede that maiden is the more talented group, but I prefer hetfields vocals. I think metallica has made some amazing solos. Metallicas riffs are amazing, and they're a great band. But I suppose I'm just a dumb jock who doesn't know anything about my 85 gigs of music

OOOOH, I knew that this debate might rear its ugly head someday, Maiden VS the Tallica boys... hmm. I'd definately go for Metallica, or Maiden... I DON'T KNOW . Both of them defined metal as we know it today, and still they are miles appart. Whereas Metallica is just straightforward trash-metal (their origins lay there), Maiden is often concidered more British Metal.
Well, in my opinion both bands are epic, no less. When it comes to personal liking, Metallica wins by default... What their music does to me is fenominal, and they have inspired me to play guitar... better. Maiden has some extraordinairy songs for sure, and I'd see them live anytime, anywhere, but still they can't touch the 'magic' that is Metallica. Maybe its because their band has shifted players so much, or maybe just because, well I don't know .
Metallica wins, Maiden a close second. After that, a huge gap haha.

i TOTALY disagree.I dont feel they ever riped of anyone.They made there own style and did it better than anyone else in the 80's .Nobody played this style in the 70's there was no one for them to rip off.There a very talented band or atleast there old stuff was.Also they have sold more albums and concert tockets in one month than Peter Frampton has or ever will his whole life.I think you just dont like heavy music.No disrespect to you just my opinion is totaly different and im sure many people feel the same way and some may agree with you as well.
, for me metallica is the best band ever....If were going 100% by fact maybe there not, but really close.As far as what i like they are the best band ever!!!

As long as you really like a band, and someone insults them, it always seems like there insulting you, the trick is, to know when they are or arent.

My only problem with metallica is the fact that they are such generic metal.. like soo generic that when people hear the world metal those are the riffs they think about. I think Metallica is more of a gateway band into metal.. for example if you like Metallica you'll like Meliah Rage. They are almost exactly the same just a bit different vocals and less generic. IMO

I just happen to like Maiden a lot more
I guess Maiden have "borrowed" their fair share of riffs as well and it doesn't bother me at all as this is common practice

I'd have to say Maiden but perhaps a way to answer this is how you respond to hearing an old Metallica song and an old Maiden song. For me, I was a big fan of both bands (although I must admit, I haven't listened to any Metallica after the Black album) and I lost touch with Maiden after the Somewhere in Time album (but recently returned with their last album and cherry picking a few great songs from inbetween like Pashendale and Blood Brothers).
Do you get more excited when hearing an old Metallica song or a Maiden song that you haven't heard in a long time (say for instance Prowler versus Battery)? To me, Maiden has the lasting power - as an older listener of records - ie lp's, I still haven't heard an 'A' side line up of songs as good as Maiden's first album (Prowler, Remember Tomorrow, Running Free and Phantom of the Opera - interestingly, I couldn't stand the 'B' side with songs like Charlotte the Harlot and Iron Maiden).
I vote Maiden but I do still love a few Metallica songs like Call of Cthulu, Sanitorium and of course, Master of Puppets).

Errr it definitely maiden for me,
although i really did like tallica's older stuff i just hate the production on pretty much all their albums and i literally never listen to their music anymore, just find it boring (sorry guys).
honestly none of the albums by tallica have aged well whereas seventh son, piece of mind and the like still sound brilliant today but thats just my two penneth.

Oh well, that about settles it then. Maiden it is! While Metallica steals their licks and also from other NWOBHM bands.
Children of Bodom was mentioned and I suppose that was to tell that they steal from both Maiden and Metallica. 
After all, that's the topic (metallica vs Maiden - songs sound the same) ^ and then who steals from whom
