Here is where the magic happens: the REC board turns bedroom guitarists into real pros. Remember - it doesn't matter if you fail or pass, as long as you keep posting REC takes you will progress.

The entries will be graded by a number of instructors. After grading, members will be accredited with the appropriate points if they pass, and adjustments will be made to their REC level.
Passing grade is 6 or higher.

Original lesson: Petrucci Style - Seven Strings Rhythms by Joe Kataldo

So I know it is soon after the other two RECs but I felt nice about this one! I was working those lessons simultaneously. 7 string magic! Tried to groove over this nice drum rhythm and I didn't feel any serious tension while playing. Hope you like it!

I watched your rec and it seems like it's got a pinch of lag too which is made more pronounced by the odd timing of the backing track.I'm starting to think it's not your playing but maybe just some recording lag introduced by your recording setup? When I watch the video, I also notice that that video seems to be a pinch lagged behind your performance. It's possible that simple digital latency is the problem. I'm guessing this vid will not pass just from timing issues. Are you hearing a bit of lag when you record? Does it take a bit of time from when you hit the string to where you hear it in your monitor/headphones? If you are using reaper, try to lower the SAMPLES to a lower number. See how low it will go before reaper starts acting strange. That may fix things!

Hi George!

I think that you need to work on timing here. You are playing the riffs well, but you are not going tight with the drums/backing track. I recommend you to use the slower backing tracks a focus on playing this riff with precision before increasing tempo.

I don't mean that this take is bad, but as this is a rhythm metal lesson, I think that going tight is essential to master it.

I'll give you a 6!

Hey George!

Here's another example where I would complain on the gain amount. See how careful Joe was with gain in his original lesson video. There is a specific kind of mess happening in your video and it's difficult to spot where exact problems happen because of that gain. I would suggest practising a little slower but also with reduced gain.

Yes I would check if the issue is what Todd describes, because the playing sounds pretty good to me - yet the overall impression is that you are off.

Also, the video is off low frame rate - so any syncing issues will be hard to spot visually.
