Hey, my goal is to be a complete guitarist as possible. I play from classical to metal but there is a lot of styles i need to get more knowledge about, thinking of jazz, fusion etc which you have very much knowledge about and can help me with smile.gif

My weakness is not getting things done and sometimes be too less disciplined.
My strenght, at some times I can be very innovative and create things in no time

Eric clapton, Hendrix and Santana made me start of with electrical guitar.
Then I disocvered more modern players like John Petrucci, and finally my great idol marco sfogli, I have been transcribing a lot of his songs.
I also like to listen to blues even though I dont play it much, I saw Joe bonamassa recently

cheers

Perfect! I really like Clapton myself!
He is an amazing musician and composer!
I think we can start with a blues in E it is very important to learn how to play blues!
It is the hardest and simpliest style at the same time!
You really have to tell the story when you are playing blues and if you can play blues you can play guitar!
Everything started with blues and every great player knows how to play it!
I prepared a few licks for you in style of Eric Clapton!

http://soundcloud.com/alex-feather-akimov/blues-mentoring
The chords are:
E 7

A 7

B 7

You can play:
A minor blues pentatonic

A major blues pentatonic

E minor Blues pentatonic

E major Blues pentatonic

B minor Blues pentatonic

B major blues pentatonic

Here are the licks!
You can practice them using backing track I made!
Make sure you are using a metronome and playing it at a slow tempo!

I am right know re-learning scales and harmonisation, but one thing I didnt do much on classical was chord progressions, I should start learning the most basic progressions I think, along with that get some more knowledge of unusal chords and make some backing tracks when practicing scales.

Also here is a song I learned recently: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mMjrQVx8Cl8...feature=related
I know they key is in D major.
But there are some intresting things about the song, like 0:59 and several other places, It sounds like the song changes key, or is it just out notes?

For example it goes :

-----------------------------------
-----------7----8-----10-----11-
--9------------------------------
----------------------------------
-----------------------------------
-----------------------------------

So its half step, wholestep and halfstep no scale has that formula?
That A# isnt in the D major scale, out note or key change?

I agree it's is very important to learn basics first! I will make you a new assignment so you can work on basic chords and also can start creating your own backing tracks!
The song you learned is really cool! I like it a lot!
To answer your question
He used A# as a chord tone I will need to see the chord progression to tell you exactly what it was
but I could clearly hear that he we to some 7 chord that is out of diatonic scale and to accent it he played A#
I would assume that he went to A#7 because it sound like he played root, but I am not 100% sure if you can tell me what chords are on this part I will be able to explain it better!

Well, I am amazed by your playing! I till try to listen to it slowly and catch some of the licks you are using, it got such flow to it and excellent note choice.
Cant thank you enough man, this is really cool

I have come up with some ideas myself but my problem i the sound I dont get a very suitable sound to this song. I liked your sound very much.

And also, your solo ends in the middle, which actually became quite cool, then I can come in there in the middle and try to play in the style of alex feather wink.gif

The first part of the song is maybe more structured and returnes to the original melody with variations, and the middle/last part before ending is a bit more free without the basic melody, and the ending will have variation of the melody that feels kind of "ending" I think it became good, I will use a fade away effect on this one.

But yes, the only problem right know would be my sound not happy with it :/

First of all I am really glad you liked the solo!
Thank you for having me! smile.gif
I like you idea about the form I guess I just didn't understand correctly where to start and where to finish!
So here is what we are gonna do:
-We will focus on your sound
-I will guide you through the song and will help you create a very cool solo in your own style! You need to sound like yourself and I will help you!

Let's start with your sound!
In order to help you out I will need to know what gear you are using and what recording software
After I will do my research and will find the best answer for you!
Than we will start working on your licks that will fit this song well!
Looking forward to start! It will be exciting!

Hi alex
I use POD X3 for recording. But I was thinking of upgrading to Pod HD pro, as you reccomended. Where did you find it for 500$? I only find it for around 700 dollars.

But anyway I am using pod x3, yes.
Ive been trying custom tone and dialing in my own tone. Well it shouldnt be too much drive in the tone and I guess not to much distortion either. Some delay
I tried different amps, didnt get a very good tone.

But to be honest I dont really know how to get that sound you were using.

I have my fender strat and my Ibanez, I guess the Fender would be more suitable for this song. Well, when playing in this still it feels like much more comfortable to play with the fender, feels like I have more bite in the strings with this higher action.

Alex did you only use A mixolydian mode?
The start of the solo is just genius, that bend then the two following licks.

Well Im doing some progress with my ideas, just cant get that sound I want!
Want it to really have flow to it and be kind of groovy.

I did a recording this morning with my sound, I think it fits good, gets a little trebly at times when hitting double strings.
Got the middle part a little wrong, and then its just improvisation.
This is approximatley how the song is going to be.
Also, there are a few out notes in it, A# instead of A.
Sounds nice to me but maybe I have to strike and A#7 chord over that A# note what do you say?

So Alex, we have this chord progression: Bm7 Em7 | A7 Dmaj7|Bm7 Em7|A7
Well Im thinking I can put in a key change here to make the song more exciting, sometime in the middle, and play F# Mixolydian instead.

So we get to Bm7, then we go directly to A#dim then to G#m7 C#m7|F#7 Bmaj7 ..... in B major/ F# mixolydian then
