Hey Alex.
My goals are obviously to try and be as good as I can with the guitar, and also to try and get into teaching more. I have 4 students at the moment but want to get into it more so need the knowlage to back my claim to being a teacher.
Weakness is probably my timing and accuracy.
Strong points are riffing, palm muting, downstrokes, alternate picking and I can fingerpick quite well.
Favourite guitarists, well too many but if I got to narrow it down, Matt Pike (High on Fire) for his kick ass riffs and wild solo's and Brett Hinds (Mastodon) again the riffs but also his hybrid picking technique. On the opposite side Leo Kottke and Andy Mckee on acoustic.
Hope this helps, looking forward see what you come up with.
Llion

Great to hear that! I can help you out!
It's very cool that you have already four students and want to get into teaching!!!
Let's start with accuracy! I have this exercise! It's really cool and it works!
The trick is to play it at a slow tempo and make sure you have a full control over your hands!
This exercise works very well and you will start seeing results in a few days!

It's going ok. Can play the exersise at 80 bpm with the guitar pro file no problem, but I'm playing with just a metronome now so have worked my way up to 80 bpm where I can get it most times so I'm working on getting perfect everytime at that pace before increasing. The change from the 16 th notes to the triplets in passage 4 is where it's caching me out but I can get it most times now.

Just wondering do you want me to record the exersise with a metronome and post it here, so that you can see where I need to work?

Ok here it is. It's not my best effort, got it on 2 nd take but I guess it shows better where I'm at with it rather than try a lot for a perfect take. I don't know how to include a metronome in the take so if you want a take with metronome let me know and I'll record on cam. Sorry.

It's really hard to tell without a metronome seems tight but I will be able to tell if you have a click!
You can make a video quality doesn't really matter as long as I can hear your guitar and metronome!

Hi Alex. Here's the take with metronome for you. Excuse the timing at the begining I was trying to get my picking hand in shot with my foot.

Perfect! It sounds pretty good a few timing issues but it's not a hard fix if you will keep practicing those exercises it will get perfect in no time!
Now I have a new assignment for you!
Here is the backing track that I want you to use when practicing exercises that I give you!
http://soundcloud.com/alex-feather-akimov/ii-v-i-jam
The chord progression is: Emi7 - A7 - Dmaj7
I will show you how to play over changes using chord tones!
So what the chord tone is?
If we will analyze a chord progression and look at each chord in details we will see this:
E mi7 - E - G - B - D
A7 - A - C# - E - G
Dmaj7 - D - F# - A - C#
Playing chord tones you will accent the chords and will be playing over changes!
Here is the exercise!

                       Chord tones exercise

This is a tricky exercise so make sure to practice it slow using a metronome or the backing track!

Hey alex. What fingers would you use for the start of the lick. I'm using 1, 2, 3 1, 2, 4 then bar with 1 then 1, 2, 2, 4 - 1, 3, 3. Does that seem right?

Wow man, this is a tough exersise, lot of jumping around. I've noticed the pattern it follows though, your basically repeating the 3rd and 7th notes of the chord over the neck right? I was just wondering is there a reason for those notes being chosen?

It is a hard exercise but you will see a huge progress after you will learn it!
As I explained 3rd and 7th are the most important chord tones so this exercise is meant to help you with finding chord tones easily!
You can practice this exercise using the backing track I gave you!
