Well the thing is that you are not in A major the key is D melodic minor that's why G minor sounds bad because of Bb in it!
I hope that makes sense!:)
I think it's better to stay in the same key we will get into melodic minor minor in little bit!
Do you want me to create a backing track so we can start working on a diatonic progression?

yeah i know it wasnt in a minor i thought it was in d but how to you know its melodic minor?
i think its a good idea to start simple i get the numbering of chords based on keys i would like to know how they are made using notes and how they are changed to minor. which note do i make flat or do i make a minor chord out of the notes in the minor scale of the same key.
also would like to know the theory behind building diminished chords and all the other variations

id be happy to start using your backing track and work fromt there sorry for the thousand questions smile.gif

We will keep getting into the theory more and more! smile.gif You have to learn how to harmonize scales that is how you know which chord is minor and which one is major!

Let's start simple!
I have created a new backing track!
http://soundcloud.com/alex-feather-akimov/chord-progression
The chord progression is:
Dmi - Bb - Gmi - F
I would like you to use D minor pentatonic in two positions:

Try to be as melodic as possible and let me know if you have any questions or need help with anything! smile.gif

You did a very good job!!! I like your melody and the whole idea is great!
Your tone can be improved though
Try maybe adding some delay and compressor to it! I am not sure if you like overdrive but you can try it out as well, just don't put too much cause it will ruin your touch!
Let me know what do you think!

i prefer to play with overdrive a LOT i like how responsive the strings become if that makes sense. i know that clean sound was terrible i am still trying to dial in a nice clean sound. i re recorded with some distortion. probably a little more than suits the track but this is a preset that i love to play around with using harmonics etc.
i still think the tone clashes a little and im starting to wonder if it could be the sound of my guitar vs the track but im not sure.

First of all great job on the track! Very nice and melodic! smile.gif
I will prepare a new assignment for you in a few hours!
You are missing mid frequencies in your sound that's what causing all the problems and that's why your sound getting "lost" in the track! Try to add a little and you will hear the difference!

I have created a new assignment! I would like you to try out a G minor blues pentatonic
By doing this assignment you will be able to hear the difference between D minor and G minor pentatonics! After that we will start combining them together!
I did my take to give you ideas please continue my solo!
http://soundcloud.com/alex-feather-akimov/gminor-solo

Those are the shapes I would like you to use:

It sounded great! You had amazing moments and very nice phrases! It sounded like you ran out of ideas after a while
so I think a good thing would be to add a few licks to your library!
I have a cool lesson that has 15 blues licks that will also work over the backing track I gave you!
Here it is!
https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/15-Blues-Licks/
Let me know what do you think:)

your right i definitely ran out of ideas. that lesson is great and i have done the first 7 im finding the 8th a little fast but im nearly there
i like that it is not a huge run of different notes because i find it harder to remember than i do playing most things.
i have no idea how i will ever remember something like neoclassical etude 2 even though i know i have the ability to play it at at least 80BPM

https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/solo-guit...ssical-etude-2/

any ideas how to memorize long runs of different notes. id like to do another improvisation like we did before maybe you could help me incorporate some simple tapping especially something like a legato run with one or two tapped notes i have seen it done before and it looks really cool but i cant really come up with anything myself.

anyway your the instructor let me know what you think but honestly i want to learn what is best for me in the long run

I think this etude will be a great lesson for you!!! Let's break it into a few pieces
This etude is based on B major scale with some passing notes F
It is not a hard piece and I think you can do easily!
First let's start by analyzing the first part

E----------------------------------------------
B-12---------12---------12---------12----------
G----11-8-11----11-8-11----11-8-11----11-8-11--
D----------------------------------------------
A----------------------------------------------
E----------------------------------------------

E-------------------------------------------
B-----12-11-9-------------------------9-11--
G-------------11-9-8----8------8-9-11-------
D--11----------------11---9-11--------------
A-------------------------------------------
E-------------------------------------------

It is based on C# dorian
Here is the scale

The notes on the first fret should be octave higher!
Start by learning this scale and than you can easily switch to the actual lesson
Try that and let me know what you think!
I played this lesson through and also think we can change fingering for some parts to make it easier for you to play I will help you when we will get there! smile.gif
