Hi guys,
With all my years of playing the guitar the one thing that has held me back big time is actually playing along with somthing. I mean i can play along with a song like metallica, G`n`R ok but when i practice with a metronome or a friend its sounds well out of time. Its funny i know whats in time but cant seem to play in time. Ive gone back to the metronome lesson time and time again. Playing at 100bpm is hard for me, so i thought it was really strange when today i had a look at the lick of the day and played the blues lick fine with 105bpm and sounded great. So how can i play the blues at 105bpm but not with a metronome. And any suggestions on whats the best way to practice i would be gratefull.
Cheers

Keep in mind....it's not just the bpm that comes into play here, but what you're trying to play at that speed. Playing a blues lick at 105 bpm is generally going to be a lot easier than playing, say, a harmonic minor string-skipping speedpicking lick at 100 bpm.

And chances are....if you sound out of time with a metronome, you are probably out of time with the CD's you are playing to as well.....but there's a whole band to disguise it. This is one of those situations where...as tired as the saying is....the only solution is lots of practice. There's one thing that everyone on the site seems to agree with, and that is the neccessity of putting in your hours with the metronome. Just take it slow and don't be in a big rush to be a face-melting shredder, and you'll get there before you know it. smile.gif
