I play mostly power and speed metal music. My main guitar is a Schecter that has active emg pickups, which I like a lot. I am looking for something different for my Ibanez. After research I have narrowed it down to DiMarzio evolutions and Seymour Duncan sh8 Invaders. My question is if anyone has experience with either of these or has a suggestion other than emgs. Very fat sound and with plenty of clarity. I like my pickups to match but there's no rule here, if having two with compleyely different charateristics might not be useful in a song or during a gig since you wouldn't want to shock the audience too much. But if it works for you and you see a good reason for use, then of course it's fine. I once had a terrible mix. A DiMarzio Super distortion in the bridge and a Breed in the neck, both good pickups on their own but as a mix it was terrible. Using one for rhythm and the other for solo in a song was useless. The body wood is basswood so the guitar has not much low end but a very singing tone, maple top and neck give it a lot of high end so combining it with a Dimarzio Evolution (which has a screaming high end) will make this guitar very bright sounding (like my own Rg with Evolutions). The sound will cut through the band mix like a knife and scream like crazy as it will almost have to much heights - it'll be a great lead guitar with awesome harmonics BUT it will sound a little bit flat for the rythms. The rythm sound will be good but not as full and thick as you might want it to be but this kind of sound fits perfectly if you play in a band with another guitarist who plays a very chunky rythm guitar (like an explorer or Les Paul) The Sh-8 Invader is a pickup with a lot of low end, almost too much low end for guitars with already a good low end (like a Les Paul) but for your Ibanez it might be the ideal pickup as it will tighten up the missing low end and give it a fuller tone! Both pickups are very articulate and great for metal - The evolution makes your guitar an awesome lead guitar with a good rythm sound, the sh-8 is a lot heavier sounding and will give you a more balanced metal sound.
