Ok a little tip for you all, if; when holding a wine glass it happens to drop out of your hands, let it fall. do not ever try to catch it, it is after all only a receptical for holding fluid not the crown jewels/ baby/ ming vase (insert any other valuable item here).
why am i passing on this little gem of wisdom?
well the other night i was in the very same situation and just as i caught the glass it broke on the ktchen top and neatly sliced a big chunk of flesh near the tip of my left ring finger. yup thats right the fretting hand bending finger. i would post a picture but it is pretty gross (moderator might spank me)
so as you can now appreciate i am at present unable to play my guitar without considerable discomfort and/or pain, and i am pretty much restricted to barre and power chords.
so the moral is that it is much easier to sweep up said broken item than be mangled and frustrated.
take care out there
aaauch... hope you are alright..
lucky for me though, i dont drink wine..
Ouch man!
I hope you recover soon from that!
Yikes! Sorry to hear that. I can imagine how frustrating that would be!
Maybe time to try a thimble - Iommi-style?
ouch! I hope it heals quickly!
Sorry to hear that man! But you should heal up fine! But on another note Tony Iommi Sliced off the tips of two of his fingers and he still managed to play a little Also Django Reinhardt brutally burnt two of his fingers and is a fantastic player ! Not saying you have a guitar altering injury of course
Oh my... sorry to hear mate, I for one won't ever try to catch a glass of wine when it's falling, I'll try to drink the content before it hits the floor instead!
Hope it heals really soon.
One of those very annoying injuries for a guitar player!
These last couple of days I've been doing a lot of paper work - copying etc more than 5000 pages etc... and my fingers now hurt when I touch the strings... Haha
Better just toughen up!
Sorry to hear this, get better soon
Quick recovery wishes!!
The next time I drop a wine glass and between it slips from my hand until it strikes the table I will recall this warning and make a desicion to not catch it. Might be difficult, my guess is that it takes quite some practice to kill a reflex
Hope you'll be able to do bends again soon.
Good thing you didn't post a picture... I just can't stand wounds involving fingers somehow. I always become overly aware of my own fingers with these stories (they are already tingeling now)
ouch! Be careful man, fingers are the musicians tools!
Oh, that's bad. Did you get your finger stitched?
Last year I almost sliced of my left middle finger tip with an http://www.indianajonesprops.com/images/Tools%20-%20XActo%20knife%20-%20Full.jpg. Got it stitched, and now it's still kind of numb.
So, always be careful, sharp objects can easily, in a second make years of practicing worth nothing, not to mention other consequences that can affect your everyday life.
I hope that all turns well.
Thanks for the advice
Hope you recover and be well to play cool again
Sorry to hear that, man.. Hope it heals fast!
Get one of these, and you don't have that problem!
Hope it gets better quickly Dusty.
Broken wine glasses can be nasty - I used to work in a pub a long time ago and someone rammed a broken wine glass in to my hand. Well they were aiming for my face but I put my hand in the way . Made a real mess of my palm at the time and I still have a tiny sliver embedded. Make sure you've got all the pieces out.
Well I guess the first reaction on anyone is to try and catch it, by the time I remember your advice my hand would have suffered the consequences, I will try to keep this in mind.
Ouch Sorry to hear about your injury. I havent had any glass-cuts like that, but i've done equally "stupid" things.. especially in the kitchen on those rare occasions i decide to make my own food. I've got a talent for getting burns on my fingers due to automatic reactions whenever i drop something
Ouch man Hope it heels soon!! I hate such injuries (I hurt my hands wrist recently because I was trying to slow down my fall)...Maybe its time for some time off until it heals ...
