Technique Confusion

But I noticed that I get to a lick such as this, typically a speed run: e ------------------------------------------------------------ B -----15p12-------15p12-------17p14-----17p14-------- G -------------14b---------14b----------16b---------16b-- D ------------------------------------------------------------ A ------------------------------------------------------------- E ------------------------------------------------------------ I don't understand what I need to do. As far as pinkie v. ringfinger, I think it's preference, but I dunno what I need to work to master this technique of doing these licks really fast, because I know if I could do it I would gain milestones in my playing. Posts: 2.700 Joined: 18-March 07 From: South Wales, UK	I actually found this lick particularly hard to handle, saw iron maiden doing a similar lick- but it was the reverse of this. (bend then note and hammer-on) anyway- this is how i'd approach it and is what i've grown comfortable with.. 1 - index 2- middle 3- ring (d) downpick (u) upstroke The reason i do it like this is because it's perfectly laid out for the shape of my fingers to do it this way. As far as picking goes, im bending the note towards me...so i want the bend to sound powerful with lots of attack- so im picking it in the opposite direction im bending it (sounds good to me) then the other picked note in the sequence would be an up, because personally like to try and alternate pick as much as possible so that i dont lose my place. I do that too, but it's really messy with the gain (no distortion on my amp), and I can't do that smoothly over and over...it starts to sound like two sixteenths and eighth rather than four sixteenths...
