I would not reccoment practicing with headphones really..

I mean it keeps your neighbors happy, and late at night, but I would do it the least amount possible.

I agree as then it is going directly into your ears and is all focussed into your ear. It isn't good as most people have it on too loud. You're best practicing with low volume on and ear plugs.

They aren't ear phones that go right into your ear they are headphones. also what's the applicator to get from boots what is that for?

It's just to make sure you get the olive oil in the ear properly. It's hard to get olive oil from a bottle into your ear so just get a squeezer to suck up the olive oil and then to disperse into your ear. You know like you'd have for putting something up your nose? There is one that is better suited to ears from boots. Just helps getting the olive oil in. smile.gif

It's unclear what you did the day before? Rehearse or what?

Be carful about the ears, if it's ringing that may be a sign you're doining something too loud. If' it's hurting you could have counth an inflammation.

Always rehearse with earplugs! Watch out for sharp sounds - standing too close to PA vocals speaker or standing too cymbals.

Take care.

The possibility of an ear infection is the critical issue. I would see an ear doctor immediately.

I have it off and on in my left ear. Ginkgo from GNC helps me a lot, but only helps about 20% of people, where the issue is circulatory, not ear damage related.

I doubt ear wax is the problem, and I would not mess with that unless a doctor told me to.

Most that are getting it now are getting it because of ear damage. If so you will have to learn to live with it. Your ear doctor will tell you if you have some hearing loss. Your average 25 or 30 year old today has the hearing that people used to have at 50 or so. It is not just extreme loud sounds. It is also moderately loud sounds over extended periods of time. I would not consider putting an ear phone on except at quite low levels, such as listening to my Spanish lessons. Certainly not music.

edit: there are charts that show how long it takes for continuous noise at a given level to damage your ears. moderately loud noise continuously will take longer to do the damage than extreme high decibel exposure, but it will happen after a certain amount of time. ears cannot handle continuous moderately high levels of noise. and these are levels that I think many on this forum would not consider extreme at all.

I've just been down to the chemist and they recommended me decongestant tablets. I had a cold at the weekend but it's pretty much gone now but i didn't think it could be that. They said wax won't cause ear ringing but apparently catarrh might. I'll see how i get on.

There is another thread on GMC about tinnitus that took place a while back. You best take it seriously. Tinnitus does not go away and there really is nothing to be done about it. Doctors don't have any cures.

GO check with the otorinolaringolog doctor. THey can wash out the build upp wax in your ears easy and painlessly. I would certainly go to see a doctor if something liek that happpens to me.

I had similar problem, my left ear would get occasional ringing and it got quite often. It was not unbareable but very unpleasant. I went to the doctors, they washed out the ear and it was fine from then.

They aren't allowed to do that anymore as it weakens the ears. There advice now is the Olive Oil method. The syringing gets rid of all wax in ear which makes you very vulnerable to all sharp noises and you hear everything louder and also as I said it weakens the inner ear.

That is why I advised on the olive oil.

I'd pop in to the drop in centre nearest you and they will suggest what is wrong. They can tell you if it is tinnitus or wax build up or ear infection and help you out. AND you don't need appointment smile.gif

It's a recent thing. They can still do it but they should highly advise you against it.

It should be offered as a last resort if all else fails.
