Tflava suggested we try jamming over a latin kind of setting - so I did some deep digging and found a cool backing in Guido's https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/Carlos-Santana-Style/ style lesson.
I split it up into two sections which I think will work nicely for a call & response kind of thing:
* export your take from the beginning of the backing track (aka "Point 0")
* For best results, send me your "guitar only" audio file without any reverb or delay. This way I will be able to make it sound like we are all jamming together.
I will record a response to your take asap and also mix everything so that you guys will be responding to each other.
Students and instructors can join!
There is no deadline, we can keep going for as long as the thread is active.
I hope you will like this idea & backing, I personally found jamming over it really inspiring! π
----- FINAL RESULT: Check it in our https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/k_pl_v3.html or http:///promo/radio/latin-jam-v2.mp3.

Here is my first take, it's a tricky backing for me but hey ho have a go
I'll have a go at part B later on, I need to get used to the harmonic minor
If you want me to reamp with a different tone I can, or I can send the raw guitar file
Here is the TH-U Patch. I used it with a PRS SE Custom 24, neck pickup and tone rolled right off. Magic_Woman.zip ( 1.43K )

Awesome Phil - great lines!! Please send me the guitar only file so I can record a response (best is if you send me a file with the amp of your choice - but without reverb/delay).

Thanks Kris, glad you like it. The second Soundcloud is guitar only and download enabled, I didn't record with any reverb or delay anyway.
UPDATE: Ooops I forgot to mute the backing when rendering the guitar only. I'll sort it. Sorry
Please excuse the dodgy vibrato, I have a neck /shoulder injury that makes it difficult at the moment
If that's no use to you I can put the file here later on
Cheers

Thanks Todd, yes it is a TH-U patch but I accidentally rolled the tone all the way down on my guitar before I started looking for a patch, it's my PRS SE Custom 24 and the tone is also the coil tap knob and for some reason they always turn real easy.
I'll share the patch if you think it's worthy.
Cheers

Okay, the Soundcloud guitar only is now in the original post here https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?s=&showtopic=62371&view=findpost&p=792323 also a guitar only file if you prefer that and I've put a zip of the TH-U patch in.

Thanks so much Phil, here is a first mix with my response. This track is so much fun to play over π
I don't mind polishing it a bit more, but if you think it's fine then I suppose I'm okay with it. I do kinda want to add a pick up note for the last motif (that two bar thing), but my brain was getting a bit troublesome!
Can I do one for Part B as well or is it only one part?

Nice tone man
thanks, it's actually a metal amp in bias with the gain all the way down with a drive in front of it with low gain and level on 10
your take really progressed too
everyone , Ken , Ben , Phil whoever else I might have missed , the takes are great and it looks like we are giving Kris something to keep him busy

Beautifull tone Ben. How do you mic up your amp? I use my boss waza expander but i will also try to expiriment with my SM57 and maybe record 2 signal at once. Did you use 1 mic?
Posted by: Todd Simpson Sep 19 2021, 09:29 AM
It's got a great Santana type vibe! I almost went for something like this, but instead went the exact opposite way and did what I never try to do and just played rythm

It's just Neural DSP Plini. I forget the name of the preset. Something like "electric sunrise lead" maybe

I have to say that this backing track is addictive!!
Very nice it evolved in a very cool way π nice answers to the takes
Posted by: Gabriel Leopardi Sep 24 2021, 01:34 PM
Wou! This is getting really cool!!
I think that my take is not starting on the right measure so it's not going with the chords. By the way, your response is amazing! Thank you!!
Posted by: Caelumamittendum Sep 24 2021, 02:20 PM
Very cool, Kris! I like how it's shaping up!
Like Gab, I think my take is moved half a bar. Not that it matters, you should do what you see best. I think it may have been because I play an intro line in the 2 beats of the pick up before the first bar. I noticed some notes landed different than what I had recorded

Here is a new work-in-progress mix of all the takes we have had so far (I have not received Todd guitar-only file yet).
I think this sounds very coherent and evolving so far, whatyathink? π
Sounding good so far. Lotsa different approaches. *My 2nd solo, over the B part (2:55 or so) is one bar late (or two if you're counting in dbl time). I'm reattaching my comp of that section ...
No worries! You're just composing something new, don't worry!
As Jacob Collier says, there are no "wrong notes", only strong and weak decisions:
Posted by: Phil66 Sep 24 2021, 10:01 PM
I could listen to Jacob 24/7, he is fascinating, I don't always understand what he says but even then I'm still gripped
Posted by: Kristofer Dahl Sep 28 2021, 09:55 AM
I have moved Caels, Gab's and Ken's (2nd) take now: latin_jam_Sep28.mp3 ( 5.66MB )
: 435
And would you believe it - it sounds even better π I hope I got it all right now.

So true! I often do something similar where I play all chromatic notes melodically over a pentatonic scale - and somehow it works!

Yep, everything is synced nicely!
*I know it's early in the process but all the leads are way up in front. It obscures the coolness of the track and especially the intricate rhythm, which is paramount in this type of music.
Posted by: Todd Simpson Sep 29 2021, 10:35 PM
I did that rythm take a bit back which was showing enormous restraint I'm glad I did as everyon has put in some great takes. I don't want to step on any of them. I really love BENS in particular.

Anyhow here is a new mix where all of the above is hopefully improved.
On the positive side, it now sounds better than ever to me (though maybe not entirely for the right reasons..! π )

Yeah Ben's take is extremely tasty and I am once again blown away by his versatility.
Also Tflava's melody must have been epic, cause it's constantly in my head. I cannot remember last time that happened in a guitar-only collab. Usually when this happens, the only way for me to stop humming the melody, its to start playing it myself. So you will likely hear me play his licks soon π

I am trying to make this one as 'radio friendly' as possible. Please have a listen:
Any suggestions you have to make it even more radio-friendly is welcome π
Posted by: klasaine Oct 8 2021, 06:25 PM
Well, I'm not sure how 'radio friendly' a dozen different lead guitar parts is but it's sounding pretty cool to me.
*The guitars are still too loud.
I would also have some of the rhythm track sans guitar at the top and at the end to get the groove into the listeners head before all the leads start. Definitely a long fade on the end.
