Task 33: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/ls/legato...g_intermediate/

So I'm the Donut King for a week ! What a great honour and a great pleasure to pick a lesson. Sensei Ben made us work on Legato, and I think the Apprentices need to work on this again.

Don't take me wrong, I'm no master, but the Task is to be done. Vultures may eat your liver if you're late ! ph34r.gif

Deadline is next Friday 14th September.

Cool Grind. This is great! I've had a light bulb moment with this lesson already and it's not hard to get under the fingers, but getting it good and up to speed. We will see. I might even avoid the vultures this week. smile.gif

Howdy Sir ! Nice take. I like the tone, I think it works just fine smile.gif

Ok, the parts that are picked have more timing control than the legato versions but that's to be expected. It would be the same even if I did it too. But for the descending legato licks near the beginning, there is a noticeable speed up when you come to the end of the phrase so you could do with more control over your 3rd and 4th fingers by the sound of it.. or maybe just spend some time with licks that descend from pinky to index finger. A lot of people find it hard to get the timing right with that configuration so this will be something worth looking at I think smile.gif

Congrats on your Donut !

I think I'm improving. I'm spending a lot of time on legato, and it seems to be useful. I know it's still not perfect. I'm in a bit of a rush sometimes, but you all posted your takes ! smile.gif

Zoom, you did a good job on this one. Your tone is better, and so is your legato. But, you could have let me be the first one to post, as it was my lesson ! laugh.gif

Brilliant ! Sounds really even on both techniques.. nothing to add. Spending the extra time with legato is paying off smile.gif

Hey guys, been a little out of the loop lately but starting to get back in the swing of things again. Definitely had to get back to honor King Grind's wishes!

I plan on doing this Task this week because the AP section in the Warrior Task is a little too much for me still and I can definitely use some good legato work. I might be a day or two late but I'll get it done by this weekend.

Here we go! I apologize for the sloppiness here. Turns out stamina is an issue for me as well which does not help my legato issue. Very challenging task Grind and hopefully I can deliver some payback here pretty soon. I really do need to really focus on legato and coordination but I HATE doing it. I want to be able to play it so bad but the journey is so damn painful. laugh.gif

Greetings, Lord Greg !

This is very interesting to hear because when we forget about the subject of legato for a second and listen to you playing the lines with picking.. notice how perfect and tight they are. This is direct proof that your fingers can already do it.. taking away the picking just takes away the accenting. It's a bit like taking away our clothes, leaving us naked ! ohmy.gif However, clothes or not, the form underneath is still the same and can perform the same functions.

I think the hardest part for people is achieving a consistent volume and sustain using just the fingers... instead of just being able to plant your fingers where they need to go, knowing the pick will take care of the sounding of the note, the finger is both the path finder and the sounder.

So your fingers can already do the path finding, it's just the sounding of the notes that is the new skill they're learning. smile.gif This is where the little muscles get tired because they've got more of a job to perform.

Yo Greg,
that's cool. The first shape is perfectly nailed, IMHO. You seem to have more trouble with the ascending and descending scales, but that's all. I'm jealous ! dry.gif
I'm waiting for your payback now... tongue.gif
