Howdy fellas
Just a quick question here. How far can I downtune a baritone guitar which minimum 27.5" scale length?
Can I tune it all the way "down" to E ?
I'm not sure if this is possible, and what string gauge you will need to go to such a big jump as fifth down. You can try with some thicker strings, but who knows how that will sound like
Sure you can! 8 String guitars are aleady tuned to f# when they are in standard tuning so you go just one step down and you have an e-standard tuning one octave lower (basicly a guitar tuned like a bass).
-It WILL sound muddy, guitars aren't made to reproduce such low tones correctly
-you WILL need string gauges like 10-68 or 11-70 for that tuning even on a 28'' scale baritone guitar
If you really wanna go down an octave, I recommend an octave pedal like the EXH micro pog. Sounds really good. I assume it would sound even better on a baritone guitar with thick strings than it does on my strat.
Are you trying to go TWO octaves down?
Why would you even want to tune that low? Itll sound pants!
Downtuning is the new wah pedal, everybody will do it for a year then throw it in the cupboard when they get bored.
I have a Steinberger baritone for the low tuning stuff, but I have to admit I never went below C, that is definitely enough for my taste. Everything below this tuning will only sound muddy in my opinion.
