Hello everyone,
Marshall used to have a product called Powerbrake, it went between the head and the cab and allowed you to basically crank a 100w head to full volume to get the valves singing and you use the Powerbrake to turn it down after the power amp.
I noticed they don't sell it any more and have read some horror stories about them. There are still some around and similar products available on eBay.
Have any of you used anything like it?
Cheers

Its called an attenuator, not the marshall model you mention but I did listen to 1-2 amps that had it. You'll probably read such products tend to cause a fake sound, and to some extent its true though maybe its me listening to good attenuators but never though was a terrible solution.

Not every attenuator is for every amp, some spec.s must be matched though I never cared to learn about it but I'm sure someone here will help.

Since I listened to your recordings the amp level you could go up to at home isn't bad at all, tonally wasn't weak sounding. From my experience its usually prefered by people who wants such low levels as if a baby is sleeping in the house smile.gif

Yep. Mertay has explored the topic....didn't left me anything to add smile.gif There is still a lot of attenuator devices on the market. Some of them have additione line out with cabinet simulation for example. This way you can crank your amp but record it without micing the cab.

Thanks Darius,
I do have emulated out on my Blackstar and Vox but I was wondering how it would sound through my can with an attenuator.
