Assuming you meant to say the Damien has a EMG81 (not an EMG85) then IMHO you already have the right bridge pickup in both guitars to emulate the sound of bands like that. If you can't get the sound you want, maybe the problem is not your pickup, or your guitar for that matter. What are you using for an amp?

If you already have EMG guitars, the easy swap is to stay EMG to be honest. Your guitar is routed for active and you can swap out pickups yourself in five minutes if you get more EMG. I'd say look at the 57-66 set as they have some of the tonal qualities making boutique pups all the rage, eg dynamics/tone. They use Alnico magnets and sound pretty spiff!
more info http://www.emgpickups.com/57-66-set.html Let me start off by saying... I know next to nothing about pickups. I dont know what pickups offer the different types of tones or sound. What I do know, my Hellraiser has EMG81 and EMG85, my Damien has a Sustaniac and EMG85. I love love love the way my Hellraiser sounds. I dont particularly like the way my Damien sounds. The sustaniac was super badass for the first month I played with it, but in comparison to the Hellraiser, it sounds bad. I am now thinking about adding new pickups. I have looked at things like the Bareknuckle Juggernaughts or some Seymore Duncans. I dont know what I am looking at though. Can someone help me out and point me in the right direction? In Flames, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Tremonti, Sevendust... just some bands I really like and follow avidly. |

Changing active to passive is labor intensive and potentially expensive as you will most likely need to change most of the wiring and pots. Stick with EMG somethings. -------------------- - Ken Lasaine

I am not complaining at all about the Hellraiser. I am, however, not convinced on the sustaniac. It just doesnt sound good as a pickup. So you're saying you're considering replacing your sustainiac because you don't like the sound of it? Before you replace it, I would suggest the EMG you have at the bridge should be capable of producing the kind of tone you hear with those bands you listed. -------------------- Cyber-industrial music and video animations:
