Let me start off by saying... I know next to nothing about pickups.

I dont know what pickups offer the different types of tones or sound.

What I do know, my Hellraiser has EMG81 and EMG85, my Damien has a Sustaniac and EMG85.

I love love love the way my Hellraiser sounds. I dont particularly like the way my Damien sounds. The sustaniac was super badass for the first month I played with it, but in comparison to the Hellraiser, it sounds bad. I am now thinking about adding new pickups. I have looked at things like the Bareknuckle Juggernaughts or some Seymore Duncans. I dont know what I am looking at though. Can someone help me out and point me in the right direction?

In Flames, Trivium, Killswitch Engage, Tremonti, Sevendust... just some bands I really like and follow avidly.

Assuming you meant to say the Damien has a EMG81 (not an EMG85) then IMHO you already have the right bridge pickup in both guitars to emulate the sound of bands like that. If you can't get the sound you want, maybe the problem is not your pickup, or your guitar for that matter. What are you using for an amp?

It might be a bigger challenge to change the neck pickup, sustainiac has electronics to its own so not only the pickups but pots etc. might have to be changed too.

And another thing, EMG (active PU's in general) uses different pots. Say you want passive seymour duncans, everything under the hood must change and it might be more expensive including paying someone to do the solder work...changin the bridge would be easy though if again EMG.

I have a 6505 Mini Head for my amp, and the cab is a 2x12 Blackstar.

I am not complaining at all about the Hellraiser. I am, however, not convinced on the sustaniac. It just doesnt sound good as a pickup. I know there is a bunch of work involved under the hood.

While they are both EMG81 (thank you Rammikin), they both sound COMPLETELY different.

Different guitars with the exact same pickups often sound different. This is why there is such a huge aftermarket for pickups. It might take different pickups to make your guitars sound alike.
Have you replaced your batteries lately? Many issues with active pickups are caused by weak batteries. Never leave your guitar plugged in if you aren't playing it if you have active pickups. I'm sure you already know that but I am a believer in always trying the least expensive remedy first. Good luck.

If you already have EMG guitars, the easy swap is to stay EMG to be honest. Your guitar is routed for active and you can swap out pickups yourself in five minutes if you get more EMG. I'd say look at the 57-66 set as they have some of the tonal qualities making boutique pups all the rage, eg dynamics/tone. They use Alnico magnets and sound pretty spiff!

Cool, the usual approach to picking pickups is trying to figure out what the guitar wants. Do you want it to be brighter, more mid.s., more output? etc...

Its cool you have 2 guitar sharing a PU so it might be easier to figure out what it lacks that you like compared to the other guitar. If you can't figure out that difference (in words) maybe some basic sound demos could help? clean and distorted. So we can tell what it needs and you can e-mail EMG for a PU advice.

sounds like the 81 is in the bridge of the hellraiser ( thats how mine came from the factory). I would pop that out real quick and try that in the damein bridge . Will only cost you some time

I'd go with what Todd and Mertay say ...
Changing active to passive is labor intensive and potentially expensive as you will most likely need to change most of the wiring and pots. Stick with EMG somethings.

So you're saying you're considering replacing your sustainiac because you don't like the sound of it? Before you replace it, I would suggest the EMG you have at the bridge should be capable of producing the kind of tone you hear with those bands you listed.

And you won't have to rewire your guitar and get new knobs/pots as KEN said! EMG swaps are really easy. Just one plug on the pickup. The HET SET is very good but my fave is still the 57-77 set which sounds very Bare Knuckle and almost sounds passive in it's dynamics.
