Hello folks,

Is there a way to stop Reaper automatically saving a numbered .wav file every time you press "stop". I have the backspace key to do this but sometimes I forget and when I'm recording an improv I can do many many takes until I get the one I like or don't make a mistake on.
It would be great to be able to tell them to go into a folder in the project folder so there isn't a big list of them automatically created.

Cheers

everytime you stop , there should be a window pop up so you can save , rename or delete your newest take, If that window does not pop up you will need to reset reaper to show it and for the life of me I can't remember how to do that

Yeah I know about that, I told it not to do it because it bugged me, I set a key (backspace) to tell it not to save but I forget it sometimes.
I would love Reaper to not save a WAV if you don't save the project. My old DAW didn't create a wav in your project folder, it just kept a temp file until you manually saved it. If you deleted the track in the DAW it deleted the wav file. So you could do a few takes, delete them, and you had no record of the WAVS smile.gif But just to be able to tell them to go into a folder would be good, it's messy sad.gif

It's doing that so that you can choose which version of your take to use once you are done recording. You can just hit record and let it loop and later audition all of your takes. You can even pick which parts of which takes that you want to keep. It's a great functionality. Why turn it off?

Thanks Todd,
The thing I liked about my old DAW was if I deleted the track within the DAW it deleted it from the folder. When I'm doing a collaboration and improvising I often hit a bum note and stop recording. If I forget to hit backspace (I have that set to not save the wav and delete the track) and hit the space bar instead, I have to delete the track manually BUT this still leaves the duff wav in the folder. I can see why it's a good feature when you're proficient, but when you're learning and making mistakes it gets messy;)
Cheers
