I've always loved the ideea of transcribing solos from other instruments.
I've started recently analyzing and transcribing a funk-fusion solo of the great Adam Rogers, which has a very distinct flavour to it. I can hear a lot of sax lines and a pianistic approach, as well.

Here it is:

Anyone discovered some interesting and fresh sounding solos? Not limiting the ideea to jazz/fusion. biggrin.gif

Love Adam Rogers!

Have recently been listening to Alex Machacek, he's fantastic!

Love Adam Rogers! He's my favorite of the new crop of jazz guitarists.

When I think of 'non' guitaristic solos by guitar players these come to mind initially ...

My jazz buddies always preached on learning some charlie parker.

I do love the idea of getting out of a 'guitar player' mindset.

Alex Machacek rocks! He is one of my favourites.
Love those songs, klasaine smile.gif
Jeff Lee Johnson sure pops into my mind when thinking of a different inspiring approach to guitar

I may get shot for this, but one of my favourite genres is actually trance (mostly progressive and psychedelic)! I also had a similar idea of writing a tune for guitar, inspired entirely by trance music! If I ever get round to doing it I'll post and let you hear what I've come up with! tongue.gif

Awesome list mate! I didn't know Sonny and Terje, very creative music.

The sax solo in "Sing a song of song" by Kenny Garett made me stop working and pay close attention. Not sure if this is the same copy but here is a YT video of it.
