Posted by: stratman33 Apr 21 2007, 10:28 PM

ive never bought a pedal in my life, so this will be my first.i was wondering what kind of pedal i should get.what i mean is like any kind of distortion or wah wah.if you have an idea of a good distortion or wah pedal for a good price, or for a first pedal, either tell me about it or post a link.thanks!

This was the first pedal I bought, Boss ME-50. It got pretty much everything and its not that expensive either. After a while I replaced it with Boss MD-2, because I only use distortion and I didnt really like any of the distortion effects on the ME-50 and it got kinda noisy. Didnt need any of the other effects anyways. But I'm not saying its a bad pedal. I used it for some years, fun to play around with, got alot of effects and its not that expensive.

I'm faaaar from an expert on gear, but still I hope this was helpful.

nice ;] ive used one of those, they arent so bad. The delays and effects (other than distortion) are pretty good so u can link those with ur MD-2!

Stratman: what is your budget? Are you looking for multi effects or for a stand alone pedal? What style of music do you enjoy playing? Heavy Metal, Death Metal, Blues, Rock, etc..

A Boss MT-2 is considered a pretty good metal distortion box, or if ur a bluesy player I'd go with an Ibanez Tube Sceamer. As for Wah effects, the Dunlop CryBaby wah does the trick wink.gif- it was popularized by the great Jimi Hendrix and is now used by artists world wide.. If you are after a more modern wah I would look at the Morley bad horsey wah wah pedal.

As far as multi effects go, Boss do a pretty good job, as do Line 6, Digitech, Zoom, etc. Open up your browser and do a little research mate! :].

First a couple of useful pedals I can't function without are Delay and Wah.
Second comes an Equalizer
Third is an overdrive.
Fourth a Distortion unless you're happy with your amps dist.

A delay, just any random delay is fine I'm sure.
Dunlop got a classic Wah. I've got the Inanez Weeping Demon and love it. But I've seen Wah's at 25 Euro at http://www.musicstore.de/is-bin/INTERSHOP.enfinity/WFS/MusicStore-MusicStoreShop-Site/en_EN/-/EUR/ViewGuidedSearch-Browse;pgid=TOZgS6SfaObm0000000000000000ivHCRk6L?showManufacturers=true&recursive=&CatalogCategoryID=mITVqHzmRzEAAAERx5svKPl9&PriceRange=&Manufacturer=&firstSelection=&inStock=&ReSort=priceasc.

When it comes to distortion I think it's must about what your preferences are. Try the Digitech DF-7 maybe which is very versatile according to ppl who use it. (I don't)

I would highly recommend the Boss MD-2 pedal as your first distortion pedal its great. I have one daisy chained up to a Boss DD-3 digital delay pedal which is also great, and then onto a CS-3 compressor - which is pants! LOL

Hi. I have great sounds out of a Digitech RP150 or the RP250.
Good luck to ya. Oh...these run about:$100.00 to $150.00, USA

Check out http://www.guitarmasterclass.net/guitar_forum/index.php?showtopic=3510 for further discussion regarding multi effect units - you might find that a multi effect unit is a better starting point until you have a specific requirement.

i uses the digitech distortion factory, i personally think digitech is so much better than boss

I bought the Boss DS-1 , does what it needs to do, adds distortion. I like the sound of it and you really cant complain about the price ( about 50$ cad) I havent tried any other pedals though, but I havent heard bad things about the DS-1 either

Dont know if you're still looking for a pedal, but I was down at Tom Lee today trying out a couple. really liked the BOSS- MD2. really pulls out the low end. reasonably priced at about $90 canadian
also tried out the DR Distorto, which I personally liked more. a little more at about $129 canadian but had really nice sustain options and just sounded plain wicked.

Probably one of the best things you can do is go to a local music store and give a couple pedals a try.
Hope that helps?

Yeah I think I'll have to. Tried the Uber Metal pedal from I think Line 6 yesterday. very bland and for 129.99cad definitely not worth it considering my DS-1 gives a way better sound. Felt like it could only take out tones and not put anything back in.

Posted by: MickeM May 19 2007, 09:16 PM

Have you tried the ML-2? Some say ML-2 beats the MT-2, others say the old MT-2 is better.
One of those maybe could be for you?

I know being 12 years old makes finances a bit difficult.
But you can find affordable pedals on Ebay. I purchased a BOSS MT-2 for $30.00 about amonth ago.

I love this pedal!

So save up your allowance, mow some lawns, sell your skateboard, whatever you have to do. There are definitely some good deals to be found on the internet.

Or Google: "http://www.google.com/search?q=convert+25+euro+to+us+dollars&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8&aq=t&rls=org.mozilla:en-US:official&client=firefox-a"

I'd say the most essential effects to get are:
1. Delay
2. Wah
3. Compressor/Sustainer

I am assuming that you already have an amplifier with a distortion sound/channel that you like so a distortion pedal isn't needed. I have a Mesa Boogie Dual Rectifier that I bought for the sound of it's dirty channel so I have no need for a distortion pedal. Definitely get a distortion pedal if your amp only has a clean channel. Reverb is a nice effect too, but most amps come with it built-in. Chorus, Flanger, etc. are great to have if that's your flavour.
