Argh! I've done it again. If I lose my job I think I should have words with Satriani for writing tunes that are just too much fun to play.
So I arise from my slumber this morning, prepared for a new day at work with the knowledge that I have much to do in relatively little time but it would be a productive day. I like productive days.
I glance at the clock. I thought to myself, "Ah, how nice.. I have 25 minutes before the train arrives. Perhaps ten minutes on the guitar will kill some time and put me in a good mood"
I think you can see where this is going. Short warm up then metronome on - practice a chop I'm struggling with. I'm progressing well and some moments later I notice that I reach my target fairly comfortably. Yay! That'll do, I'll have to go catch the train now.
*innocent whistle* followed by *gasp*
45 minutes has gone by in, what feels like, the blink of an eye!!
Oh well, not to worry. The next train is due in just ten minutes. I'll play that lick again and then I'll be gone..
Yes, you guessed it. I missed that train as well. And for similar reasons I missed the next two!
I'm usually a good clock watcher and know when to put the guitar down and get on with life but I think today I was on a roll with my playing and having so much fun, an hour felt like a few minutes.
So I'm about three hours late for work. Good thing there's nobody in work other than myself and I work in academia. Still, looks like I'll be here until midnight again (with the GMC forum and youtube to keep me company when I get fed up)
On another note - I've been hammering the blues these past couple of months and even I've noticed that my playing feels much more expressive and has more character, even though I'm playing the same notes.
Sounding flat and monotonous? Play dem blouse geetar
