Hi GMC,

New member here, Dan Pratt. Hail from Midlothian, Texas. Have seen a lot in
years and places hence the moniker. While not a complete Luddite, I will have
to get used to this forum stuff. Hopefully, this comes thru OK.

Found GMC quite by accident and was impressed with the quantity and quality
of the information. You should all be commended for your good work. This
however, does suggest a problem as the amount of info is somewhat
overwhelming to new members such as myself. I think I will post on the GMC
Practice forum for suggestions on a lesson plan.

A bit about me. Been playing a long time but mostly to amuse myself. Was even
in a band back in the heyday of garage bands until Uncle Sugar strongly
suggested another line of work. Have a 1980 BC Rich Eagle and a 1974 Gibson
Les Paul (present to myself after enlistment). Use a Crate Blue Voodoo with
cab and a 60's Fender Showman blackface thru a Fender cab. Use several pedals
and have a Korg guitar microprocessor. Also, just for kicks have a 5-string
banjo that I play Scruggs style altho still a beginner.

Musical taste is rather eclectic. Like blues, rock, fusion, jazz, some metal
(Bolen, Timmons, Vai, Satrioni, Buchanan) and a host of others, and on the banjo end,
Fleck and Trischka.

Hopefully, I can with your help, get to some new plateaus in my playing.
Looking forward to working with some of you.

Regards

Welcome to GMC, Dan!

Wonderfully written intro. One of the best I've seen! I have a feeling you will do just fine with this forum thing wink.gif

As for lesson plans, here's a quick link to the one that is currently in the GMC Wiki: https://www.guitarmasterclass.net/wiki/inde...ths_Lesson_Plan

I have been following it loosely since I got here and so far it's been great! I have chosen to do some different lessons and not all of the ones listed in there, but that can give you a general guideline.

I would recommend that you first find out what level your playing is at. GMC uses a 1 to 10 scale with one being beginner and 10 being the most difficult.

Once you find out what level you are at, I would search through some of the lessons at that level, pick one that you like, and start playing!

No problem, many have not yet acquired a taste for Bela Fleck but check out his playing on 'Acoustic Planet' before you decide.

Thanks for reply

Thanks for kudos and your suggested plan. My playing is probably at different levels depending on which area you are looking at. I will check out some lessons in each and see where I fit. Talk at you soon.

Great to have you here! Welcome to GMC! You could not be in a better place to learn guitar. I teach a live lesson in the video chat room every Saturday @ 4pm E.S.T (United States Time) and I've love to have you there. We are learning alternate picking / speed picking currently and I look forward to working with you.

Practice!
Todd
