I've really never listened to Jimi Hendrix much before learning guitar two years ago. Once I started making that transition from playing chords/rhythm, into soloing I really have started to listen and study his stuff. It really is quite amazing how much he would get out of a 5 note scale. Very rarely did he use modes, etc.
I got a good book that breaks down some of his songs by intro, verse, solo, and comes with a cd that plays at regular speed and slowed down. It's called Guitar Signature licks Jimi Hendrix by Andy Aledort
Worth checking out if your at the music store sometime...
